With a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and over 3 years of experience, I work with adults experiencing grief and a loss of identity related to childhood trauma, family dynamics, and significant life transitions. If you're struggling with boundaries, attachment patterns in relationships, or persistent feelings of not being enough or unworthy of love, you're in the right place. Together, we'll explore these experiences with curiosity and compassion, helping you reconnect with your sense of self and move toward a life that feels more authentic and meaningful.
My commitment to you as your therapist is to help promote a feeling of autonomy, relatedness and competence to where you can live life more freely with meaning and purpose. I have a career experience in a variety of professional therapy work-related duties and environments, tele-health, inpatient / outpatient atmospheres, and a variation of other different professional roles of counseling positions over the past 30 years.
My name is Jeffrey W. Danese, MS, MA, LMHC, LPCC, and I am a licensed mental health counselor in Washington State and California, currently based in Sacramento. I bring over 15 years of clinical experience across private practice, inpatient and outpatient mental health settings, and college counseling, along with a an academic background teaching psychology, religious studies, and the history of science in higher education from UCSB, FSU, and 10 years at SJSU to various community colleges in the Puget Sound region and in North Florida and cross-cultural experiences such as living in Taiwan, Zambia, Germany and traveling around the world; I studied Spanish, German, and Chinese language, world history and religions, psychology, evolutionary psychology and the cognitive science of religion; was raised Catholic but ordained as a Buddhist monk in Thailand; and continue to meditate, explore and read broadly. One of my favorite quotes is by the Roman writer, Terence: "I am human and there is nothing human foreign to me." (or, Homo sum, humani nihil a me alienum puto. -- Publius Terentius Afer, 165 BCE)
I bring a deep well of experience supporting people through some of life's hardest moments. My background spans hospital ER crisis work, oncology and end-of-life care, and geriatric mental health with veterans at the VA, including those in the early stages of memory loss and the caregivers supporting them. I've also worked closely with homeless veterans, individuals navigating grief and loss, PTSD, and those trying to leave domestic violence situations. Alongside this, I support clients with anxiety and depression, and I enjoy working with teens as well. Whatever you're carrying, chances are I've sat with someone facing something similar, and I bring that experience with me into our work together.
'm a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with experience supporting children, teens, adults, and families through anxiety, life transitions, emotional overwhelm, relationship challenges, and parenting stress. It is actually difficult to say what my "ideal client" would be- an individual who is willing to look at the hard and scary stuff- face it- grow from it- put it beside them and no longer allow it to be what they see the world through. They desire to increase their self-awareness and make changes based on their increased self-awareness- thus finding more comfort in their own skin.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado. I have over 7 years of post graduate experience working with individuals and couples.
I currently accept individual adult clients only through Headway. I do not provide couples or family therapy through this platform at this time.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who works with individuals, couples, and LGBTQ+ clients seeking deeper self-understanding, emotional healing, and more connected relationships. My approach is warm, relational, trauma-informed, and grounded in the belief that healing happens through safety, honesty, and meaningful connection.
I specialize in relationship therapy, anxiety, depression, identity exploration, attachment wounds, complex trauma, and psychedelic assisted psychotherapy. I also support clients navigating life transitions, grief, shame, self-worth, communication challenges, and patterns that keep them feeling stuck or disconnected from themselves and others.
My work draws from Emotionally Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method, Internal Family Systems, somatic awareness, humanistic and existential therapy, and trauma-informed care. I help clients slow down, listen inward, understand their patterns, and develop more compassionate and empowered ways of relating.
As a queer-affirming therapist, I am especially passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ clients and relationships. I strive to create a space where clients can bring their full selves—without judgment—and explore healing in a way that honors their identities, histories, relationships, spirituality, and lived experience.
