Psychologist

My name is Dr. Juila Carter, and I've been practicing psychology since 2014. In addition to my doctorate degree, I am board certified in Behavioral and Cognitive therapy through the American Board of Professional Psychology. I have been serving our nation's Veteran's by working as a psychologist with the Department of Veterans Affairs for over 10 years, and continue to do this full time.

Through my work at the VA I've had the privilege of working with Veterans on issues including PTSD, Anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and relationship concerns. Working at the VA has also afforded me the opportunity to continue learning cutting edge treatment strategies including trauma focused treatments, stress reduction techniques, and DBT skills.

While my primary job has been working with Veterans, I have worked with a variety of individuals from a diverse range of backgrounds and presenting issues. I've helped people with anxiety disorders, depression, trauma history, and adjustment concerns, in addition to personality disorders and over controlled coping styles.

In addition to my clinical work, I engage in research on the cause and treatment of personality disorders, and supervise and teach students at the VA and local university.

When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and kids, and while we are currently pet free, looking forward to getting a dog in the next year. I love being outdoors when it's not the height of TX summer, and enjoy listening to thunderstorms when I get the chance I enjoy reading (Stephen King is my favorite) and watching TV.

Hi, I’m Debra. Life’s challenges can sometimes leave us feeling disconnected from who we truly are. I believe that each person’s story matters, and I bring a genuine curiosity and compassion to understanding the experiences that have shaped you.

Together, we can explore your personal narrative, identify patterns that may no longer serve you, and build on the strengths you already possess. I work with individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use concerns, mood disorders, life transitions, and the everyday challenges that can impact well-being. My goal is to provide a supportive, collaborative space where you can gain insight, find healing, and move toward a life that feels more authentic and aligned with your values.

First off, Hello! I am an LCSW who has worked with individuals, couples, children, and adolescents. I've worked with a variety of clients from those who have been recently been in-patient, going through a life transition (i.e. divorce, grief, relocations), struggling with depression and/or anxiety, and who have experienced abuse and other traumas.

Choosing to be in counseling is an extraordinary act of self-discovery and self-love that I believe each person can benefit from.

Hi! Life can throw hard things at us, and we all find ways to cope. Some of those ways work great, and some only for a time. Maybe that's showing up as anxiety, depression, or just feeling like a stranger in your own life lately. Whether you're working through something specific or navigating deeper, more complex trauma, there's room for you here. I use trauma-informed and attachment-based approaches because I want to get to the why behind what you are feeling, not just manage the symptoms. Doing this work can be hard — but I promise we'll find some humor along the way, too.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider (LSOTP) who has been practicing since 2015. Throughout my career, I have gained extensive experience working with a diverse range of populations and presenting concerns. My professional background includes providing treatment to adults with sexual behavior issues who have been court-ordered or mandated by state and county agencies to participate in services. I have also worked extensively with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, and other complex life challenges. In addition, I have provided services to children in foster care and youth identified as at risk, helping them navigate emotional, behavioral, and environmental difficulties. Find the right therapist for you

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Mental Health Therapist in Texas

Searching for therapists in Texas starts with finding someone whose training fits what you want support with. Across a state as large and varied as Texas, therapy needs and available therapists can differ across urban, suburban, and rural areas. You may be looking for help with anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship challenges, grief, trauma, or major life changes. Review each therapist’s listed specialties, approach, and experience to see whether their background matches your needs. Some therapists may use approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, or eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, while others may focus on specific populations or concerns.

Location and format also matter when comparing Texas therapists. In larger areas like Houston, Dallas, and Austin, you may have many choices, while other parts of the state may have fewer local options. Some people prefer meeting in person, while others choose virtual sessions for scheduling flexibility or easier access from home. As you narrow your search, look at appointment availability, whether a therapist is accepting new patients, and whether they offer a free phone consultation. Reading therapist bios before booking can help you understand how they describe their style, what sessions may feel like, and whether their communication approach fits your preferences.

The cost of therapy in Texas can vary, and using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs. Headway helps you search for Texas therapists who match your preferences, accept your insurance, and are ready to take new patients. Nationally, Headway works with over 100 insurance plans, and you can enter your insurance details to see estimated out-of-pocket costs before booking. From there, you can compare therapists, review bios, and book directly when you’re ready.
