Hi, I'm TJ — a Marriage and Family Therapist and the founder of A Better You Wellness, LLC. I work with couples, individuals, families, and teens (17+) across Texas, offering both in-person sessions in the Fort Worth area and teletherapy statewide.
My training is deeply relational. I graduated from North Central University with a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, and I hold additional certifications as a Certified Trauma Professional, Master NLP Practitioner, and Hypnotherapist — training that shapes how I think about healing beyond the surface level. I specialize in relationship challenges including communication breakdowns, infidelity and trust repair, and premarital counseling, along with anxiety, depression, trauma, codependency, career stress, life transitions, and self-esteem.
What sets my approach apart is a philosophy of integration. I believe that meaningful, lasting healing rarely comes from one method alone. The experiences that shape us — especially the hard ones — leave imprints on the mind and body, and I honor both in my work. Clients often tell me they feel heard from the very first conversation, and that's something I take seriously.
You’re doing your best—but parenting can feel heavy. Maybe your child is having big emotions, struggling with anxiety, or acting out in ways that worry you. Maybe you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, and wondering if you’re doing enough. You're not alone—and you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. I work with moms and children (ages 3–17) who are navigating the hard stuff—anxiety, trauma, life changes, or just the emotional weight of everyday life. Whether your child needs support, or you do (or both), I provide a safe, compassionate space where healing begins and hope grows
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Florida, Louisiana and Texas with a strong background in both school and clinical counseling. Over the years, I have supported children, adolescents, and adults as they navigated challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, and relationship concerns.
Please send me an email at [email protected] and we can arrange an initial consult or book your first session.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Mental Health Therapist in Texas
Searching for therapists in Texas starts with finding someone whose training fits what you want support with. Across a state as large and varied as Texas, therapy needs and available therapists can differ across urban, suburban, and rural areas. You may be looking for help with anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship challenges, grief, trauma, or major life changes. Review each therapist’s listed specialties, approach, and experience to see whether their background matches your needs. Some therapists may use approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, or eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, while others may focus on specific populations or concerns.
Location and format also matter when comparing Texas therapists. In larger areas like Houston, Dallas, and Austin, you may have many choices, while other parts of the state may have fewer local options. Some people prefer meeting in person, while others choose virtual sessions for scheduling flexibility or easier access from home. As you narrow your search, look at appointment availability, whether a therapist is accepting new patients, and whether they offer a free phone consultation. Reading therapist bios before booking can help you understand how they describe their style, what sessions may feel like, and whether their communication approach fits your preferences.
The cost of therapy in Texas can vary, and using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs. Headway helps you search for Texas therapists who match your preferences, accept your insurance, and are ready to take new patients. Nationally, Headway works with over 100 insurance plans, and you can enter your insurance details to see estimated out-of-pocket costs before booking. From there, you can compare therapists, review bios, and book directly when you’re ready.
