I’m a bilingual, multicultural Licensed Professional Counselor who supports adolescents, teens, parents, adults, couples, and families in both English and Spanish. If you or your child is struggling, or if your family is feeling the stress of anxiety, behavior concerns, school challenges, grief, life changes, or family conflict, I’m here to help.
I also support clients who are dealing with the effects of abuse, including painful memories, anxiety, and past experiences that still feel present today.
My story is a bit unique as to how I became a psychotherapist. I studied abroad in Costa Rica during college where I learned the Spanish language and where my love of adventure and exploration began. After moving to Los Angeles for several years, I decided to then move to New York City to pursue a career in music which is my first love. I was living in NYC and working for Sony Music on September 11, 2001 which changed my life dramatically. I decided to return to The University of Texas in Austin and obtained my Masters in Social Work in an effort to pursue a career in helping others which is my second love.
My therapeutic approach is grounded in the Relational Model as I believe that relationships, both with ourselves and others, are what allow us each to feel fulfilled, secure, and empowered. My hope is that we can work together as a team to unlock your inner strengths so that you can confidently manage life's stressors in the past, present, and future.
I love working with adolescents and I have a warm, non-judgmental, humorous, but direct approach that seems to fit well with teenagers. I have worked for many years in community mental health and as such have been successful with almost every diagnosis that exists, all age groups, and all genders. I look forward to working with you and your family.
Many people come to therapy carrying burdens they have learned to live around rather than understand. Anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, loneliness, childhood wounds, and life transitions can leave you feeling stuck, disconnected, or uncertain about how to move forward. You may find yourself repeating the same patterns, struggling to connect with others, or wondering why certain experiences continue to affect you years later. My approach is grounded, collaborative, and deeply curious. I work with clients to better understand the experiences, relationships, and beliefs that have shaped the way they move through the world
Hi! My name is Schavonda. I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) working virtually with Texas clients. I have 5 years of experience in private practice and over 17 years in an educational setting.
When one door closes it can make you feel as if life has shut you out. I can help you unlock those doors and step into your purpose using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Solution Focused Brief Therapy. If you are experiencing grief, anxiety, depression or work or personal relationship concerns, I would love to assist with developing a treatment plan. We will work together to manage your mental health by utilizing keys to developing problem solving skills, creating goals, and set boundaries.
If you are ready to unlock those doors, I would love to support and guide you through this process.
If you have been struggling with anxiety, depression, recovering from a trauma, or you are having relationship problems, then I would like to help you. Maybe there is something else that has been bothering you or maybe you are just under some stress and need someone to talk to. Give me a call or send me an email & I will respond promptly to schedule a brief meet and greet explaining how I can help you find healing and growth. I specialize in mental health counseling from a spiritual perspective.
Storms of life come to us in all kinds of ways. Like an unexpected Texas hail storm pounding us with stress and shattering our lives; or a tornado of change uprooting all that was once familiar; or perhaps a seemingly small gust of difficulty which swirls our lives around until we no longer have a sense of direction. We are in uncertain times which often creates waves of doubt and amplifies our fears as we question the future. Yet in the midst of the chaos there can be a sense of calm. I’ve been honored to walk the path of healing with those struggling in addiction, trauma, grief, loss and relationship challenges. With a background in psychology as well as recreation, I use proven methods of Counseling to empower strength in discovering a sense of purpose through clearing of the mind, restoration of the body and joy in the spirit. It takes courage to change and face the storms of life. I look forward to joining you in your journey and helping you turn the tides of your storm into hope and healing.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, relationship stress, or difficult life experiences? You might be struggling to manage emotions, feeling stuck in patterns that aren’t working, or unsure how to move forward. I work with children, teens, adults, and couples facing challenges like depression, trauma, family conflict, and major life transitions. Together, we’ll create a space where you feel understood, supported, and equipped with tools to build confidence, improve relationships, and feel more in control of your life.

Find the right therapist for you
Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Mental Health Therapist in Texas
Searching for therapists in Texas starts with finding someone whose training fits what you want support with. Across a state as large and varied as Texas, therapy needs and available therapists can differ across urban, suburban, and rural areas. You may be looking for help with anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship challenges, grief, trauma, or major life changes. Review each therapist’s listed specialties, approach, and experience to see whether their background matches your needs. Some therapists may use approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, or eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, while others may focus on specific populations or concerns.
Location and format also matter when comparing Texas therapists. In larger areas like Houston, Dallas, and Austin, you may have many choices, while other parts of the state may have fewer local options. Some people prefer meeting in person, while others choose virtual sessions for scheduling flexibility or easier access from home. As you narrow your search, look at appointment availability, whether a therapist is accepting new patients, and whether they offer a free phone consultation. Reading therapist bios before booking can help you understand how they describe their style, what sessions may feel like, and whether their communication approach fits your preferences.
The cost of therapy in Texas can vary, and using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs. Headway helps you search for Texas therapists who match your preferences, accept your insurance, and are ready to take new patients. Nationally, Headway works with over 100 insurance plans, and you can enter your insurance details to see estimated out-of-pocket costs before booking. From there, you can compare therapists, review bios, and book directly when you’re ready.
