"Believe you can and you're halfway there." Hi! My name is Ashley Barber-Brown, and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, Associate in North Carolina. As your therapist I want you to get the care you deserve and I believe the best experience is life's many lessons that we live and struggle through daily. As your therapist you will be welcomed and accepted as you are. Your story is your story. You will be offered a safe haven, a place of peace, and a judgement free zone where it is completely okay, to not be okay.
Since 2015, have gained a wide breadth of experience ranging from wilderness therapy to residential treatment centers, working with clients aged 13-72. Recently, I was a Clinical Director working with dual-diagnosed boys and young men. I am trained in a Gestlat Approach, Brainspotting, and Relapse Prevention.
My background is in all aspects of mental health and substance abuse.
I am first and foremost a helper at heart and love being a counselor. I have been in practice as a Licensed Counselor for 20 years. I have experience in working with Children, Adolescents and Adults.
I have a MA in Mental Health Counseling and 23 years of clinical experience I specialize in adult trauma, and Complex PTSD. I believe there is power in learning to balance our lives emotionally and spiritually. I have 20-plus years as a counselor and have been able to help clients find emotional and general life balance. I draw from primary treatment modalities of Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, Solution Focused, Psychodynamic and Existential Theories. Ideally, at the conclusion of counseling, a client will be able to actively deal with their internal states in a way that allows them to feel more at peace with increased self-esteem, and well-being.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Therapist in North Carolina
Searching for therapists in North Carolina means choosing from a wide range of licensed therapists across urban, suburban, and rural areas. The right fit may depend on what you want support with, such as anxiety, depression, grief, relationship concerns, or life transitions. As you compare North Carolina therapists, look for training and specialties that match your needs. A therapist’s profile can show whether they use approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-informed care, or family therapy.
Your options for therapy in North Carolina may look different in Charlotte, Raleigh, Asheville, or smaller communities across the state. Some people prefer meeting with a therapist in person, while others choose virtual sessions for schedule flexibility or access to more therapists licensed in North Carolina. Beyond specialty, consider appointment times, whether a therapist is accepting new patients, and whether they offer a free phone consultation. Reading bios can help you understand each therapist’s communication style, session structure, and areas of focus before you book.
The cost of mental health care in North Carolina varies, and therapy can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs. Headway helps you find therapists and counselors in North Carolina who match your preferences, take your insurance, and are accepting new patients. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans, and you can enter your insurance details to see your estimated cost before booking.
If anyone in your family is experiencing or worried about abuse, threats, or coercion, joint family or couples therapy usually isn't the right starting point — individual support is safer. The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline (1-800-422-4453) and National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788\) can help you think through next steps.
