Hi there and welcome!
My priority is supporting clients on their journeys towards personal healing & growth.
In 2010, I received my MSW/LMSW. While doing outpatient clinical work at the NYC non-profit agency JBFCS, I became an LCSW. In 2016, I began to establish my private psychotherapy practice, focusing on young and professional adults presenting with a broad variety of life challenges.
Nice to meet you!
As a Mental Health Counselor I am deeply passionate about helping individuals heal, grow, and reach their full potential. My work is fueled by my strong belief that everyone has the capacity to create change in their lives. My specialties are:
· Anxiety
· Depression
· Addiction & recovery
· Stress Management
· Trauma and PTSD
· Faith based (Christian) counseling
I started my work with infants and young children, guided by a simple belief: when we understand the meaning behind behavior, everything in a family can begin to shift. I use play as a primary way to connect with children and understand their inner world. Through play, children express thoughts and feelings they may not yet have words for. By joining them in this space, I’m able to better understand their experiences and help them feel seen, supported, and safe.
My path to becoming a therapist began in children’s media, where I spent fifteen years project managing educational content. That experience shaped how I see children today—curious, expressive, and constantly communicating, even without words.
I went on to earn my Master’s degree from New York University, training at the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Center, where I deepened my understanding of how music and play can help children feel seen, regulated, and understood.
My clinical work has included early intervention, a specialized school for autistic children and young adults, and an elementary school supporting students with hearing loss and communication differences. Across these settings, I saw how powerful it is when a child is truly met where they are.
In 2023, I founded Sound Mind to create a more individualized, relationship-based practice—one where I can connect deeply and tailor my work to each child and family.
My name is Sara and I graduated from Adelphi in 2017 with my MSW. Shortly after I obtained my license and began to work in Queens in a hospital doing inpatient psychiatric social work. I have worked with all populations on each of our specialty units, including adolescents, young and older adults, and aging. I spent most of my time working with individuals aged 18-62 presenting with a multitude of acute crises. I range from working with individuals experience first-break symptoms, all through chronic and treatment resistant symptoms. I have also held supervisory and administrative roles, in which I provided direct supervision and guidance for other healthcare professionals, primarily social workers. I also specialize in family dynamics and counseling, as well as mediation.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Mental Health Therapist in Bohemia, NY
Searching for therapists in Bohemia starts with finding someone whose experience matches what you want support with. Therapists may focus on concerns like anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief, trauma, or life transitions. As you compare options, look for listed specialties, therapy approaches, and experience with the concerns you want to address. A therapist’s bio can also show how they structure sessions, communicate, and help people set goals for care.
Bohemia is a smaller Long Island community, so the number of nearby in-person therapists may vary by schedule, specialty, and office location. Virtual therapy can expand your options across New York while still letting you choose a licensed therapist who fits your needs. You may also want to compare appointment availability, whether a therapist is accepting new patients, and whether they offer a free phone consultation. Reading profiles before booking can help you understand each therapist’s style and decide who seems like a strong fit.
Therapy in Bohemia can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and understand what you may pay before care begins. Headway helps you search for therapists who match your preferences, take your insurance, and offer upfront cost estimates before you book. You can browse therapists in Bohemia, review bios, and book directly when you’re ready.
