In my experience, the best therapy comes from helping others. Even when I’m feeling down, I make it a point to support those around me and listen to their concerns. My journey with therapy began when my father passed away when I was 10 years old. At the time, I was confused and my mother encouraged me to express my feelings to a therapist. That period was a blur, as I struggled to articulate my emotions. Growing up in a family that valued privacy and relied on prayer for solace, I often felt something was missing.

During my freshman year of college, I enrolled in my first psychology course. The passion of my professor inspired me to consider switching my major to psychology. At that time, I was dealing with depression, anxiety, and unresolved trauma. I decided that if I wanted to become a counselor, I should first address my own issues through therapy.

This decision allowed me to learn coping skills and gain firsthand experience of the counseling process. I realized that professional training and studies would equip me with the knowledge and confidence needed to handle situations involving intense emotions. As I continued my education, I aspired to be a “super therapist” or, as I jokingly called it, “The Beyoncé of therapists,” eager to help everyone. While I understood that was unrealistic, I chose to focus on the populations that interested me the most, including individuals dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, and those within the LGBTQ+ community.

My Philosophy

I see counseling not as fixing people, but as helping people rediscover the strength, resilience, and clarity they already possess. Whether you’re facing trauma, navigating identity, or simply trying to make sense of life’s changes, I aim to meet you where you are and walk alongside you toward hope and wholeness.

Outside the Office

When I’m not in session, I enjoy hiking, biking, working out, painting, and spending time outdoors. I’m passionate about Texas culture and the stories that shape who we are — both individually and collectively.

Find the right therapist for you

Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Mental Health Therapist in Texas

Searching for therapists in Texas starts with finding someone whose training fits what you want support with. Across a state as large and varied as Texas, therapy needs and available therapists can differ across urban, suburban, and rural areas. You may be looking for help with anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship challenges, grief, trauma, or major life changes. Review each therapist’s listed specialties, approach, and experience to see whether their background matches your needs. Some therapists may use approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, or eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, while others may focus on specific populations or concerns.

Location and format also matter when comparing Texas therapists. In larger areas like Houston, Dallas, and Austin, you may have many choices, while other parts of the state may have fewer local options. Some people prefer meeting in person, while others choose virtual sessions for scheduling flexibility or easier access from home. As you narrow your search, look at appointment availability, whether a therapist is accepting new patients, and whether they offer a free phone consultation. Reading therapist bios before booking can help you understand how they describe their style, what sessions may feel like, and whether their communication approach fits your preferences.

The cost of therapy in Texas can vary, and using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs. Headway helps you search for Texas therapists who match your preferences, accept your insurance, and are ready to take new patients. Nationally, Headway works with over 100 insurance plans, and you can enter your insurance details to see estimated out-of-pocket costs before booking. From there, you can compare therapists, review bios, and book directly when you’re ready.
