Nice to meet you!
As a Mental Health Counselor I am deeply passionate about helping individuals heal, grow, and reach their full potential. My work is fueled by my strong belief that everyone has the capacity to create change in their lives. My specialties are:
· Anxiety
· Depression
· Addiction & recovery
· Stress Management
· Trauma and PTSD
· Faith based (Christian) counseling
I started my work with infants and young children, guided by a simple belief: when we understand the meaning behind behavior, everything in a family can begin to shift. I use play as a primary way to connect with children and understand their inner world. Through play, children express thoughts and feelings they may not yet have words for. By joining them in this space, I’m able to better understand their experiences and help them feel seen, supported, and safe.
My path to becoming a therapist began in children’s media, where I spent fifteen years project managing educational content. That experience shaped how I see children today—curious, expressive, and constantly communicating, even without words.
I went on to earn my Master’s degree from New York University, training at the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Center, where I deepened my understanding of how music and play can help children feel seen, regulated, and understood.
My clinical work has included early intervention, a specialized school for autistic children and young adults, and an elementary school supporting students with hearing loss and communication differences. Across these settings, I saw how powerful it is when a child is truly met where they are.
In 2023, I founded Sound Mind to create a more individualized, relationship-based practice—one where I can connect deeply and tailor my work to each child and family.
My name is Sara and I graduated from Adelphi in 2017 with my MSW. Shortly after I obtained my license and began to work in Queens in a hospital doing inpatient psychiatric social work. I have worked with all populations on each of our specialty units, including adolescents, young and older adults, and aging. I spent most of my time working with individuals aged 18-62 presenting with a multitude of acute crises. I range from working with individuals experience first-break symptoms, all through chronic and treatment resistant symptoms. I have also held supervisory and administrative roles, in which I provided direct supervision and guidance for other healthcare professionals, primarily social workers. I also specialize in family dynamics and counseling, as well as mediation.
Hello, and thank you for taking the time to learn about my practice. My name is Courtney, and I have been practicing psychotherapy for over 20 years. I view the therapy relationship as a collaboration, with my primary role as a guide in creating a safe container for healing, achieving balance & empowerment, and developing insight & conscious awareness for a more positive and fulfilling life. My style is that of curiosity, non-judgment, and compassion for your experience, while together we cocreate a therapeutic path forward to heal old wounds and evolve into new healthy behaviors and coping abilities.
I am a trauma-informed psychotherapist with extensive training in Trauma-Focused therapy, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Creative Arts Therapy, Somatic Therapies, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). I believe understanding the brain as it relates to both trauma and meditation is an empowering first step on the healing journey.
I follow a person-centered, eclectic and integrative approach to treatment, grounded in Energy Psychology, evidence-based treatments, trauma-focused interventions, meditation, spirituality and creative wellness. I am passionate about this work, and I welcome the opportunity to connect with you to determine if we would be a good fit.

Find the right therapist for you

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Mental Health Therapist in Wantagh, NY
Searching for therapists in Wantagh starts with finding someone whose training matches what you want support with. You may be looking for help with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief, work stress, or life transitions. As you compare therapists, look for specialties and approaches that fit your needs, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, trauma-informed care, or experience with couples and families. A therapist’s profile can help you understand what they focus on and what sessions may be like.
In a smaller Long Island community like Wantagh, local in-person options may be more limited than in larger nearby areas. Virtual appointments can expand your search across Nassau County and New York, while in-person care may be a good fit if you prefer an office close to home, work, or school. When narrowing your options, consider appointment availability, whether a therapist is accepting new clients, and whether they offer a free phone consultation. Reading bios before booking can help you compare communication style, areas of focus, and session structure.
Therapy in Wantagh can be a significant investment without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and see your estimated cost before you book. Headway makes it easier to find licensed therapists who may accept a wide range of insurance plans, may offer virtual or in-person appointments, and may be accepting new clients. You can browse therapists, review bios, and book directly when you’re ready.
