Hello, and welcome. Deciding to start therapy is a meaningful step, and finding the right fit is essential to your journey.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) practicing in Nassau County, Long Island. Over the years, my professional background has been rooted in supporting individuals through life's transitions, emotional challenges, and personal growth.
My main goal when working with clients is to create a safe space to express themselves. I specialize in working with people who have PTSD, Anxiety, and Depression. I also use a DBT approach with many clients. I work primarily within the LGBTQ population and I am also trained in Gottman Couples Therapy.
I genuinely enjoy my work as a psychologist, and feel honored and privileged to be able to help people on their journey toward health, happiness and well-being. I strive to being a good listener, compassionate, respectful and nonjudgmental. I have a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, with 23 years experience in private practice during which I saw a great diversity of clientele, each owning a variety of mental health issues. I have specialties in substance use issues, mood and anxiety disorders, sport psychology, as well as grief and life transitions. I work with teens and adults of all ages, and I have a special place in my heart for folks who have served our country in the military and for senior citizens.
My expertise is in anxiety, life transitions, chronic stress and ADHD. I have been trained and train other professionals in CBT, DBT, Mindfulness and interpersonal psychotherapy. My aim is to help you make actual, measurable, behavior change. I will collaborate with you to stop avoiding the challenges in your life, without treating you like you need to be "fixed."
I’m a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in New York with a Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University. I specialize in working with adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, and the lasting impact of difficult or overwhelming life experiences. I provide therapy in both English and Mandarin and enjoy working with clients from diverse cultural and bicultural backgrounds.
I have a particular interest in understanding how early experiences can shape the way we see ourselves, relate to others, and respond to stress in the present. Many of my clients struggle with anxiety, self-doubt, perfectionism, relationship difficulties, or feeling overwhelmed even when things may look okay from the outside.
I approach therapy with warmth, authenticity, and deep respect for each client’s story. My goal is to create a space where you feel genuinely understood and supported as you develop greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and new ways of responding to the challenges in your life.
I’m Dr. Joseph Yanni, a licensed psychologist who works with teenagers, college students, young adults, adults, parents, and families navigating anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation, school and college stress, relationship challenges, and life transitions. I earned my Psy.D. in School Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University and continue to work as a school psychologist, supporting students with emotional disabilities in a specialized educational setting. This experience has given me a practical understanding of how emotional, academic, social, family, and developmental concerns often overlap.
I use a collaborative, practical, and integrative approach that draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, humanistic and person-centered therapy, behavioral strategies, and lifestyle-based interventions. I believe therapy should be individualized rather than following a one-size-fits-all model. Together, we work to better understand what is contributing to the concern, build practical coping skills, strengthen relationships, and develop realistic strategies that create meaningful change.
I work especially well with teenagers, college students, young adults, and parents navigating the transition from adolescence into adulthood, while also supporting adults and families facing anxiety, relationship concerns, and other important life challenges. I provide in-person therapy in Scarsdale and Pleasantville, along with virtual therapy throughout New York State.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Therapist in East Syracuse
Searching for therapists in East Syracuse starts with finding someone whose training matches what you want support with. You may be looking for care related to anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, or work stress. As you compare therapists, look for listed specialties, therapy styles, and experience that fit your needs. Some profiles may mention approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, or trauma-informed care, which can help you understand how a therapist may structure sessions.
East Syracuse is a smaller market, so local in-person openings may be more limited than in nearby Syracuse. Virtual therapy can expand your options while still letting you see a therapist licensed in New York. As you narrow your search, consider appointment availability, whether the therapist is accepting new patients, and whether a free phone consultation is offered. Reading therapist bios before booking can help you compare communication style, session focus, and what to expect in the first appointment.
Therapy in East Syracuse can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and understand what you may pay before care begins. Headway helps you search for therapists who match your needs, take your insurance, and offer in-person or virtual appointments. You can review bios, see estimated out-of-pocket costs, and book directly when you’re ready.
