My specialties include trauma, relationships, supervision, and medical issues. I will help you be more conscious of your thoughts, emotions, and body and thus reach your potential.
My previous education in biology and neuropsychology has provided me with knowledge that is invaluable, especially during trauma work. Because I find both Eastern and Western psychological practices useful, I integrate many tools and therapies into the sessions and tailor treatment to each individual.
I'm Nicole Shelton, a double board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health and Family Nurse Practitioner (APRN, PMHNP, FNP). My experience in ICU and the ER informs my holistic approach to care. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, substance use, and trauma across the lifespan. As a military wife and mother, I emphasize lifestyle balance, encouraging patients to integrate nutrition and exercise. I am dedicated to breaking mental health stigma and advocating for veterans and those impacted by trauma, ensuring you feel seen, supported, and empowered on your journey.
Hello, I have been a licensed psychologist for the past 7 years. I provide a safe, compassionate, and culturally sensitive space where clients feel seen and heard. My approach integrates evidence-based, strength-focused therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Process, and Solution-Focused techniques. Together, we’ll work to help you navigate life transitions with resilience and self-compassion.
I offer therapy in both English and Spanish and warmly welcome clients from diverse backgrounds.
I’m a psychiatric nurse practitioner who works from the belief that people are not broken—and that many of the struggles we call “mental illness” make sense when we look at trauma, context, and lived experience. I’m especially attuned to the ways mental health systems, stigma, and labels can unintentionally cause harm, and I aim to practice in a way that feels respectful, collaborative, and deeply human.
My approach is unconventional and trauma-informed, influenced by perspectives like those of Gabor Maté, which emphasize compassion, curiosity, and understanding symptoms as meaningful responses rather than defects. I do not believe in rushing to pathologize the human experience. As Joni Mitchell once reflected about depression, sometimes what we’re feeling is not an illness to be fixed, but a signal—an honest response to pain, loss, or a world that has not been kind.
My approach is rooted in trust, empathy, curiosity, and genuine care. I believe that meaningful change begins in a safe, supportive relationship where you feel seen and understood. I strive to create an environment where you can explore your thoughts and emotions freely, without judgment. I have had experience working with all ages- spanning from private practice, community mental health, school social work / school based therapy, and residential treatment centers. While I love working with children and adolescents, I also provide space for adults and parents.
If you’re looking for a therapist who will truly listen, validate your experience, and also be honest with you when you need a different perspective, you may be in the right place.
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor with a trauma-focused approach and a genuine belief that healing happens when you feel both safe enough to be vulnerable and supported enough to grow. I work with a wide range of concerns, including women’s issues, sexual trauma, PTSD, C-PTSD, sex and intimacy concerns, relationship challenges, shame, self-esteem, and major life transitions. I especially enjoy working with people who feel stuck in patterns they understand intellectually but can’t seem to change.
My path to becoming a counselor was personal and unconventional. After raising three children and building a career in government, I went back to school and began a new chapter in mental health. Starting over taught me something I now bring into my work with clients: you are not defined by where you’ve been, and it is never too late to create a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling.
Whether you’re recovering from trauma, struggling in your relationships, questioning your identity or direction, carrying shame from your past, or simply feeling disconnected from yourself, therapy can be a place to make sense of it all.
My goal is for you to leave therapy feeling more understood, more empowered, and more connected to yourself—not because I have all the answers, but because we’re figuring them out together.
We have the power to create and to recreate our world through the process of our own thinking. Sometimes all we need is the right guide to help us discover and live that process. It has been my privilege to have served as such a guide. Specializing in the integrative cognitive-behavioral treatment of anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, and related disorders, I bring a holistic orientation to my work by considering not just psychological factors, but environmental factors as well. Through this approach, coupled with a commitment to close collaboration between therapist and client in order to promote healing and change, I have witnessed extraordinary empowerment in my clients throughout the years.
I came to Clinical Social Work and psychotherapy at middle age, after a long and pretty successful career in the theatre. The same passion for understanding human behavior as an actor led me to seek my Masters in Social Work from Fordham University, graduating Suma Cum Laude in 2007. I have provided concrete social services to marginalized populations while starting and maintaining a small private practice since then. Just under three years ago, I went exclusively private and see clients full-time in virtual sessions.
I have over 30 years of direct clinical experience. I work remotely at this time, and blend cognitive behavioral techniques with psychodynamic techniques, including dream work (if interested). I work with adults with a wide range of challenges. I cannot make your anxiety disappear; however, I can help you change your relationship to it.
Are you feeling anxious, stuck in old patterns, or unsure of where you belong in this complex world? Struggling to balance work and personal life? Maybe you’re navigating grief, a major life change, or carrying a sense of disconnection from yourself and those around you. You may also be trying to understand which parts of you feel genuinely your own and which have been shaped by family, culture, expectations, or experiences you have carried for a long time. If so, you don’t have to go through it alone.
With over a decade of clinical experience and backgrounds in International Disaster Psychology and Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, I bring a broad understanding of how our inner lives are shaped by more than symptoms alone. I am especially interested in the intersections of identity, culture, relationships, life experiences, and the larger environments we move through.
Therapy with me is warm, curious, and conversational. I want you to feel like you can bring your whole self into the room, including the parts that feel complicated, contradictory, difficult to name, or still in the process of becoming. Whether you are exploring cultural, racial, ethnic, spiritual, professional, relational, or personal parts of yourself, we can make space for your history while helping you understand who you are now and what you want your life to look like moving forward.
If you're looking for a therapist who is down to earth, easy to talk to, and genuinely in your corner, I'd love to work with you. After 11 years in the mental health field, I'm back in private practice, and I see teens, adults, and seniors across Colorado and Wisconsin by telehealth. People come to me carrying anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, grief, anger, stress that will not switch off, family and relationship strain, substance use, and the weight of a chronic health condition. Our time together will always be shaped around you and what you need.
I specialize in trauma therapy for adults, with extensive experience supporting survivors of sexual violence and other traumatic experiences. If you’ve been through something overwhelming, it can feel like a fog has settled over you, affecting every part of your life. You might find yourself overthinking, being on edge, shutting down, or feeling numb, even when you want to feel present and connected. Many people I work with feel stuck in this space and are unsure how to move forward. Together, we’ll work to understand and process your emotions, thoughts, and past experiences so they no longer hold the same power over you.
