I’m Dr. Mariam Esfahani, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Doctorate in Psychology. With nearly two decades of experience, I have dedicated my career to helping adolescents and adults navigate trauma, anxiety, and life transitions. I also specialize in couples therapy, guiding partners toward healthier communication, connection, and conflict resolution.
I believe that healing begins with a genuine connection. As a therapist, I'm committed to creating a safe, compassionate space where you feel seen, heard, and supported. I have experience working in mental health settings, academia, faith-based ministries, and non-profit organizations, all interwoven with a break for 15+ years of full time parenting. My experience includes working with anxiety, life transitions, cancer, ADHD, and issues related to the BIPOC community.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family therapist, I am passionate about helping individuals optimize their overall mental health. I have a BA in Psychology from Cal State Fullerton, a MS in counseling from Cal State Los Angeles and have been practicing for nearly a decade. I am currently working with clients statewide via telehealth.
I enjoy working with adults from diverse backgrounds who seek to improve the quality of their lives. Is there a place you find yourself stuck? Do you have some insight into what may be happening, but want to seek professional support to grow and thrive? Whether you are familiar with counseling or not, each person's therapeutic journey is unique. Some people come with a specific goal in mind and others prefer a longer supportive therapy, traversing the many layers and aspects of their life.

I am a clinical psychologist working in San Diego, with over 20 years of experience. I completed a postdoctoral fellowship in substance use disorders at the San Diego Veteran's Affairs Healthcare System. I have expertise in working with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, substance use problems, relationship issues, and assertiveness. I also conduct psychological testing for questions around ADHD, Autism, mood disorders, giftedness, learning problems, and personality issues, among others. I believe psychotherapy is a collaborative process to help clients understand themselves better, achieve goals, and become one's best self.
Deep listening is a gift that empowers individuals to reflect and change
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I see the world through the lens of relationships. I treat adults dealing with anxiety, depression, relationships, perinatal mental health, childhood trauma, and religious wounds. I believe the work of therapy is in undoing aloneness. I became a therapist because I believe it’s in relationships we are injured and paradoxically, it must be through relationships that we heal.
My passion lies in working with clients who need assistance with personal empowerment and identity development. My goal is to instill hope by identifying areas of strength, resilience, and capacity for positive change. Effective therapy takes effort and commitment from both the therapist and the client.
