You can’t break out of a cage you’re still trying to decorate. I’ve been many people’s 4th/5th/8th/9th therapist and been told they felt like something finally clicked for them. I care about it clicking. My approach is based on self-compassion and living an integrated life. Even if you’re motivated to change, it’s still hard because negative events can shape beliefs about the world and ourselves that we often don’t even realize we hold. So we start with self-compassion, and then work on trying to bring our actions into alignment with our goals. I’ve been a therapist for over a decade now, and I promise – self-compassion is the move.
I am a psychotherapist specializing in trauma-focused care and integrative therapies. I utilize EMDR alongside other bottom-up approaches such as somatic and IFS-informed therapy. I’m a licensed psychologist with more than three decades of experience in psychotherapy, psychological assessment, and trauma-informed care. My background includes extensive work with adults, adolescents, and children across private practice, medical settings, and the VA’s PTSD clinic, where I provided both treatment and disability evaluations. I completed my doctorate at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in an APA-approved Counseling Psychology program and an APA-accredited internship with broad training in assessment, psychotherapy, and multidisciplinary collaboration. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Religious Studies and later completed my Master of Arts in Counseling at Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon. Hi there, I'm Laura, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington state with 6+ years of experience helping those experiencing anxiety, depression and trauma.
This is my second career and my life's purpose. My background includes direct mental health therapy and behavioral counseling with youth, caregivers, teens, and adults, so I've had the chance to work across a wide range of ages and presenting concerns.
We all have experiences in life that might leave us feeling broken or disconnected with ourselves, others, in relationships, and the world around us. I believe that healing and wholeness can belong to all of us. If you are looking for someone to support you on your journey toward wellness and restoration, allow me to accompany you on the road that can often feel isolating when taken alone. The therapeutic relationship is paramount to me!
You're used to handling responsibility. You know life is what you make of it and you normally feel pretty optimistic and accomplished. But lately you find yourself off-balance. You may regret things you've said or done because there was no time to really sort out the best path. BEFORE you cut off important foundation pieces- your marriage, career, activities and people you've loved that feel like they no longer fit, see me and together let's make sure they're not part of your protective alarm system, begging for perspective and healthier personal balance.
Hi there! I specialize in working with neurodivergent adults and people who have experienced childhood adversity. Many of my clients have ADHD, autism, or high ACE (adverse childhood experiences) scores and understand their patterns intellectually, but need help creating change that feels safe and sustainable.
I work best with clients who are ready to take an honest look at how their past continues to shape their relationships, choices, and sense of self. Trauma work cannot be rushed, so I maintain a small caseload and move at a pace that gives each client’s nervous system time to adapt. I bring genuine compassion, curiosity, and humanity into the therapy room.
