I’m a therapist with extensive experience supporting individuals through challenging seasons related to mental health, personal and professional transitions, and incorporate career and academic support when valuable. I take a holistic view, considering emotional health alongside factors like habits, lifestyle, and overall wellbeing. My style is direct, thoughtful, and collaborative, with an emphasis on helping you clarify your values and move toward a more fulfilling life; supporting the process of bridging the gap between my client's goals and where they are at present.
I earned my MA in Counseling from the University of South Florida. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, LMHC. I have been working with children, teens and young adults for 25 years. Everyone needs a safe space to refresh and become the healthiest version of themselves. My areas of expertise include helping clients who are experiencing issues with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, behavioral concerns, relationships and life transitions.
I work with high-functioning adults who look like they have it together and are quietly running on empty—people whose competence has become the thing they hide behind. My foundation is TEAM-CBT, an evidence-based approach I'm certified in at the highest level (Level 3 Advanced) through the Feeling Good Institute, and I train regularly with the Beck Institute. It gives our work real structure and proven tools. But symptoms usually rest on something older, and that's where the deeper work happens. I work most with anxiety, perfectionism, conditional self-worth, and the depletion that hides underneath a successful life.
Healing from trauma, anxiety, and major life transitions can feel overwhelming, especially when you've spent years carrying burdens that were never meant to be carried alone. You may feel stuck between who you are and who others expect you to be, weighed down by painful experiences, family dynamics, cultural expectations, or the pressure to keep everything together while struggling internally. Whether you're coping with complex trauma, sexual trauma, relationship challenges, anxiety, self-doubt, or significant life changes, you deserve a space where you feel seen, understood, and supported.
Hi, I’m Zakiya, and I believe therapy works best when you feel safe enough to show up as your authentic self. With graduate training in Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University and years of experience supporting young adults and individuals navigating life transitions, I strive to help people navigate life's challenges with greater clarity, confidence, and self-compassion. My areas of focus include culturally responsive care, identity development, relationship concerns, anxiety, and the emotional challenges that can come with change and self-discovery.
Welcome. If you are here, you might be asking yourself, "Who am I?" Life has a way of pulling us away from our true selves, especially during seasons of profound shift. Whether you are navigating the complexities of divorce, the overwhelming seasons of motherhood, deep grief, career changes, an empty nest, health challenges, or the pain of family estrangement, these milestones can leave you feeling disconnected. I provide a compassionate, dedicated space for women to safely untangle these heavy emotional seasons, clear away the confusion, and rediscover their true voices.
I work with individuals, children, and families, helping them rebuild life skills while addressing mental health challenges. I completed my Bachelor’s in Psychology at the University of South Florida and earned my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. I am bilingual in both English and Spanish, and I’ve worked extensively with Hispanic families, making me uniquely suited to address their specific needs.
My additional training includes Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Integrative Harm Reduction Techniques, and I’m currently undergoing training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Therapist in Florida
Searching for therapists in Florida starts with finding a therapist whose training fits what you want support with. Across a large state, therapy options can vary between urban areas, suburbs, and rural communities. You may be looking for help with anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship concerns, grief, trauma, or life changes. As you compare therapists, look for listed specialties, therapy approaches, and experience that match your needs, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, trauma-informed care, or support for specific life stages.
Location, format, and scheduling can shape whether a therapist is a practical fit. In areas like Miami, Orlando, and Tampa, you may find more in-person options, while virtual therapy can expand access across other parts of Florida. Some people prefer an office setting, while others choose virtual sessions for schedule flexibility. Before booking, review each therapist’s profile to understand their availability, session style, specialties, and whether they offer a free phone consultation. These details can help you compare your options with more confidence.
The cost of therapy in Florida can vary, and using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to lower session costs. Headway helps you search for Florida therapists who are accepting new patients, enter your insurance details, and see an estimated out-of-pocket cost before you book. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans. You can browse therapists, read bios, compare availability, and book directly when you’re ready.
