My graduate school experiences centered around mental health and school counseling. My undergraduate background is in psychology and with most recent post-doc experience from Harvard University, I have a unique perspective of focusing on the mind, body, spirit, and emotional well-being.
I have extensive experience supporting individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, and major changes in their personal or professional lives. My clinical and professional work has also included a particular focus on maternal mental health, postpartum experiences, racial and cultural stressors, and overall emotional wellness.
A Florida and Polk County native, Mirtha is a graduate of Frostproof High School. She is board certified as both a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and an Autonomous Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. She earned a Bachelor's of Nursing from Polk State and a Master's of Nursing from USF. In 2023 Mirtha earned a Post Master's Certification in Psychiatry from Florida Atlantic University. However, her journey as a mental health provider began in 2020 when she became certified through the Academy of Christian Counseling, as a mental health coach. Then in January of 2025 she became an active member of the Order of Saint Luke (OSL) a healing ministry.
Mirtha has nearly 20 years of experience in healthcare. Her passion is caring for individuals struggling with mental health issues. She has been volunteering with the youth in her community for over 7 years and also has experience working in a domestic violence shelter with victims of trauma.
I know that sometimes asking for help can be difficult. Rest assured, we all need help at one time or another in our lives. I am dedicated to helping children, teens and adults discover their unique voice and express themselves in a safe, supportive and nonjudgemental space. With a warm, client-centered approach, I specialize in guiding individuals through life's challenges---whether it's anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation, racial identity exploration, stress or family dynamics.
I am a licensed mental health counselor with a master’s degree in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Florida. For five years, I have supported people in outpatient and inpatient addiction settings, hospitals, needle exchanges, and those living with severe and persistent mental illness. Today, I primarily help adults ages 18 to 45 navigate anxiety through individualized, one-on-one therapy. I bring compassion, curiosity, and experience to every session.
