Sometimes the hardest part is just deciding to reach out. I work with children, adolescents, and adults who are navigating anxiety, trauma, family stress, and the weight of experiences that are hard to carry alone. I am affirming and experienced in working with LGBTQIA+ and transgender individuals, and I welcome clients across a wide range of backgrounds and life circumstances. Whether you are dealing with the effects of trauma, anxiety that has become hard to manage, or stress that has quietly built up over time, I want our work together to feel like a genuine partnership.
Hi, I'm Dorothy, a licensed counselor with 30 years of experience in the mental health field. As an artist and a lifelong student, my goal as a therapist is to help you become your own best friend. I work with adults, teens, and children in both individual and family therapy settings, tailoring my approach to meet the unique needs of each client.
Many of the people I work with are high-functioning by every external measure — capable, driven, the one others lean on — while privately carrying anxiety, burnout, shame, or a quiet sense of disconnection from themselves or the people they love. If that's you, you don't need to be told to slow down. You need someone who can help you understand the patterns underneath it and actually change them.
I'm a licensed psychologist with a Ph.D., working with adults and couples. My style is warm and direct: I'll listen closely, and I'll also tell you what I'm seeing. The aim is lasting change — understanding what's been driving the pattern so you can do something different, rather than just managing symptoms.
Talking about your feelings, thoughts, and experiences with anyone can be challenging, especially with a complete stranger. I strive to provide a safe, comfortable, and judgement free space for you to reflect and navigate through the various seasons of your life.
What is your approach to therapy?Whether you have specific goals or simply need a listening ear, I utilize a variety of approaches to assist clients in accomplishing their goals and navigating difficult situations. I use a holistic and collaborative approach, providing encouragement, accountability, and direct feedback to assist clients with their individual needs. Some of my areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, trauma, and interpersonal communication skills.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?I hope to use my training and experience to help you overcome obstacles, identify your strengths, manage stress, and learn helpful coping skills to propel you forward. Like many things in life, therapy can be uncomfortable and scary at first, but I'd be honored to walk with you and encourage you along this journey.
With over a decade of experience as a school counselor in the public system, I have dedicated my career to helping adolescents navigate the turbulent waters of modern growth. I believe in a holistic approach—partnering with parents to foster resilience, academic success, and strong family communication.
Beyond the classroom, I hold a deep, personal commitment to women’s ministry. I provide a sacred, confidential space for women navigating the pain of divorce or seeking healing through post-abortion recovery. My practice is founded on the belief that no matter the complexity of your past, there is a clear, hopeful path to restoration.
Whether I’m guiding a student toward their future or walking alongside a woman through her deepest season of healing, my mission is to ensure every person feels seen, valued, and empowered.
My journey towards therapy started in the forests on the Pacific Crest Trail and in the San Juan Mountains as a Wilderness Therapy Guide. I was entranced by people's stories that landed them on the trail, as well as by their takes on life. I decided to get my Master's in Counseling at Adam's State University so that I could professionally hear people's stories. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado. I have experience working with families and individuals ages 12+. I am passionate about helping people manage chronic stress that seems inevitable in the current world we live in.
Although I have a wide range of professional experience ranging from maternal/family health and parenting, to grief and trauma, my focus usually gravitates towards trauma, as it tends to be an underlying unaddressed symptom behind many different presentations. I believe everyone will be, at some point in their life, in need of help and because of this, everyone is thus also deserving of it. Unbiased, without judgement or fear of retaliation or criticism- just the ability to let go in a safe, trusting space. With my practice, you set the course- and I will provide the tools and support to get us there.
