I believe in meeting people where they are and allowing you to set your own pace for healing. I look forward to assisting on your healing journey in any way that I can.
Life can pull us in a hundred different directions, and sometimes it takes slowing down, getting real, and having honest conversations to find our way forward. My approach is straightforward and commpassionate - no judgment, no fluff. Thank you for reaching out for assistance. I have been providing mental health interventions and support for 36 years as an LCSW. I have also been credentialed as a trauma and ICU nurse and very early on in my professional life I was a special education teacher and received a masters in education as well.
My first few decades in practice was dedicated to the care and treatment of children 4 -12 years of age and adolescents 13 to 18 many who had been adjudicated for protection. Because of my nursing background and work in oncology I also have experience in providing supportive care for loss and grief issues as well as education and support for chronic illness, and post trauma care.
I have in the past 15 years began to work also with adults. I am licensed in EMDR interventions for PTSD both acute and chronic post trauma effects.
Because of my medical background i try and include a holistic approach to understanding both the physical and psychological issues my clients may be experiencing .
I became a social worker because I believe no one should have to face life's hardest moments alone. As a Behavioral Health Therapist, I have supported others through illness, loss, caregiving, family change, and some of life's most difficult seasons.
Along the way, I've also volunteered my time into local community organizations throughout the years.
All of this has taught me something simple: people don't need to be fixed. They need to be heard, understood, and given the tools and support to heal. That belief is at the heart of how I practice.

I’m Dr. Gina Sissoko, a licensed clinical psychologist passionate about helping women—especially Black women, immigrant women, and high-achieving professionals—heal from trauma, manage stress, and create lives that feel balanced and authentic.
My style is warm, collaborative, and grounded in both science and cultural awareness. I've spent my career in community mental health, working with adults, teens, couples, and families navigating real, everyday challenges - relationship stress, family conflict, financial pressure, and anxiety. Factors to Consider When Choosing a Family Therapist in Virginia Beach
Searching for family therapists in Virginia Beach starts with finding someone who understands the concerns your family wants to address. Family therapy can support families navigating parenting conflict, adolescent struggles, blended family dynamics, communication patterns, and stress across generations. Family therapists are trained to work with the relational system, not just one person, so review each therapist’s listed specialties, training, and approach to see whether their experience matches your needs.
In Virginia Beach, your options may include therapists with offices near home, school, or work, as well as therapists who offer virtual appointments across Virginia. For family counseling, it also helps to ask how sessions are structured. Some appointments may include the full family, while others may focus on parents, siblings, couples, or individual family members. Before booking, read therapist bios for details on availability, session format, communication style, and whether a free phone consultation is offered.
Therapy in Virginia Beach can be a significant investment without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and understand what you may pay before care begins. Headway helps you search family therapists in Virginia Beach who are accepting new patients, review detailed bios, check estimated out-of-pocket costs, and book directly when you’re ready.
If anyone in your family is experiencing or worried about abuse, threats, or coercion, joint family or couples therapy usually isn't the right starting point — individual support is safer. The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline (1-800-422-4453) and National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788\) can help you think through next steps.
