This field is everything to me. I have been fully licensed for a short time but have worked in mental health for over 10 years in many roles. Working with clients, being alongside them through their most difficult and profound experiences is, I feel, the biggest honor one could have.
I believe therapy should feel like a place where you can finally exhale. You don’t have to have the right words, know exactly what you need, or arrive with everything figured out.
My approach is warm, compassionate, and deeply human. I work with people who may feel overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected from themselves, or exhausted from carrying too much for too long. Together, we make space to understand what you’ve been through, what your nervous system has learned to protect you from, and what you need now in order to heal and move forward.
I created Gentle Ground Therapy with the hope of offering exactly what the name represents—a soft place to land, where you can feel supported, understood, and safe enough to grow.
You are more than what has happened to you, and healing does not mean becoming someone new. Sometimes it means gently finding your way back to yourself.

Anxiety, stress, and addiction can make every day feel like a battle you're fighting alone. I'm Myra, an LPC and Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner in Virginia. I meet you where you are, listen without judgment, and help you build a path toward what you actually want. Let's start talking.
Please feel free to call me Sam. I'm originally from North Carolina and received my bachelor's degree in social work at Appalachian State. In 2022, I moved to Southwest Virginia and received my master's degree in social work from Radford University. Overall, I have 13 years of experience as a Social Worker in different capacities, including grief and loss, chronic illness, and burnout. My passion is working with adults and older adults navigating life changes.
Laneka Montgomery is a compassionate therapist with experience supporting individuals navigating stress, trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, and life transitions, including end-of-life concerns. She works with adults, women, and couples facing relationship challenges and emotional distress.
Laneka is committed to creating a supportive, affirming space where clients feel heard and valued.
I help to create a safe, collaborative space where you will feel seen, not judged. Our relationship is one where you can let your guard down and show up as your full self. It is my goal to use a warm and compassionate relationship to walk alongside you, offering reflection, compassion, and challenge when needed to help you reach your goals.
I believe the most effective care comes from a strong, collaborative partnership. I approach each person as more than a diagnosis, and I value honesty, accountability, and mutual respect in the work we do together. Change is possible—I’ve seen it firsthand—and I’m here to support you in becoming the version of yourself you want to be. My background includes both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Nursing from Walsh University, and I bring that clinical foundation into thoughtful, individualized care.
I'm a bilingual therapist (English and Spanish) who came to Virginia from Bolivia in 2003. Before entering private practice, I spent years working in Child Protective Services and maternal health — systems that gave me an honest, on-the-ground understanding of what families face when life gets complicated. That experience still shapes how I show up for clients today: I'm not here to give you textbook answers. I'm here to sit with the real thing. I specialize in trauma, PTSD, anxiety, BPD, maternal mental health, and the kind of grief that doesn't fit on a sympathy card. I'm especially attuned to the unique pressures of immigration, cultural identity, and what it means to build a life in a country that wasn't your starting point. If you've ever felt like no one really gets the full picture of who you are, that's exactly the kind of space I try to create.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with clinical experience since 2019 across private practice, healthcare, and specialized care for older adults, couples, and families. I specialize in working with neurodivergent clients, LGBTQIA+ individuals, , and older adults.
Every session I conduct is rooted in trauma-informed care and a commitment to meeting you where you are. Incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI),Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I offer a holistic and flexible approach to help you develop effective coping mechanisms, strengthen relationships, and achieve your personal goals.
