I believe that most people have the answers within themselves to work through their own problems - my role is to help you unlock that inner wisdom. I have experience helping people who are struggling with anxiety and depression, or who are numbing out through substance use. My clients are often working through life transitions and other challenging situations, such as relationship issues, grief, or chronic pain. Perhaps you have not been handling your emotions very well. You may even feel hopeless, or unsure how to articulate what you are feeling. Therapy is a collaborative journey to a more healthy state of mind.
I received My Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health Science because I care so much about the Earth and the creatures that inhabit it. But I soon realized that if I was not interacting with people (or animals) that the work I was doing seemed irrelevant.
Then caring for my terminally ill stepmother led me first towards nursing, then to Social Work.
Since getting my MSW, I have worked In a wide variety of settings ranging from domestic violence shelters to a medical hospital to a homeless day center. I believe that despite our varied backgrounds and beliefs, we are all good at the core and want to be physically and emotionally healthy in order to make the most of our lives. Some of us have learned bad habits by being told, or telling ourselves, that certain things are not possible or us and that is rarely the case.
I hold a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee and hold my clinical licensure in the state of North Carolina. I have spent much of my career serving those at end of life and also have experience assisting caregivers, those in transitional phases of life, and those who are bereaved. As a mother, I am invested in the wellness of all mothers and women and feel deep appreciation for the way mothers show up for countless others before themselves. I look forward to learning how I can walk alongside you in this journey.
Greetings! I commend you on taking first step! My name is Ashley Coleman. I earned my Bachelor's of Social Work at Benedict College and my Master's of Social Work at University of South Carolina.
I bring authenticity, compassion, and a down-to-earth approach to each session!

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Mental Health Therapist in Monroe, NC
Searching for therapists in Monroe starts with knowing what kind of support fits your needs. You may be looking for help with anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions, or work stress. As you compare Monroe therapists, look for someone whose listed specialties, training, and therapy approach match what you want to focus on. Provider bios can help you understand whether a therapist uses approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, trauma-informed care, or another style of care.
Monroe is a smaller city, so local in-person options may be more limited than in larger areas of North Carolina. Virtual therapy can give you access to more licensed therapists while still letting you choose someone who understands your preferences, schedule, and insurance needs. As you narrow your search, consider appointment availability, whether a therapist is accepting new patients, and whether they offer a free phone consultation. Reading each profile before booking can help you compare communication style, specialties, and what sessions may look like.
Therapy in Monroe can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and make ongoing care easier to plan for. Headway helps you find therapists, see estimated out-of-pocket costs before booking, and confirm whether your specific insurance is accepted before choosing a therapist who is accepting new patients. From there, you can review bios, compare availability, and book directly when you’re ready.
