Hi, I'm Dr. Daniel! I'm a jack of all trades & master of none. I'm a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Before my clinical training, I completed a BSc in Organizational Management, a Master of Divinity in Chaplaincy, and a Doctor of Ministry. I'm an Ordained member of the clergy. Later, I completed a Master in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and have completed all of the core courses for a PhD in Counseling and Psychological Studies, only the dissertation remains. Hello! I'm so excited that you are here. Welcome to the start of something new! My name is Samaria Witherspoon, but I’m commonly known as Sam. I am an author, professor as well as the founder of Hidden to Healing, LLC providing individual, couples and family counseling to those that are struggling with trauma, anxiety, overall life satisfaction, depression, aggression, grief, substance abuse, and behavioral and emotional issues.
I believe in hope and healing, even in the midst of life’s most difficult challenges. As a clinical social worker and therapist with more than 30 years of experience, I offer compassionate, experienced support to individuals and families navigating serious illness, grief, loss, and caregiving.
I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Michigan and a Master of Arts (MA) in Counseling from Bowling Green State University. Throughout my career, I have specialized in helping people cope with the emotional and relational challenges that can accompany serious and chronic illness, including cancer, kidney failure, and dementia.
My work also focuses on grief and bereavement, including anticipatory grief—the grief that can begin before a death—as well as the profound loss that follows the death of someone we love. With experience as a palliative care and hospice clinician, I understand the complex intersection of medical, emotional, and family concerns that often arise during serious illness and at the end of life.
I also provide support to family caregivers, recognizing the tremendous emotional and practical demands of caring for a loved one. My goal is to create a compassionate, supportive space where individuals and families can feel heard, find meaning, process difficult emotions, and discover ways to move forward with greater hope and resilience.
I believe that even when we cannot change the circumstances we face, we can find support, connection, and healing as we navigate them together.
