My name is Amy Plettner and I have 7 years professional experience. I received my masters degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee.
I have been doing this work since 2009 — which means I have sat with a lot of people through a lot of different kinds of hard. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling with a dual focus in professional counseling and marriage and family therapy, and my career has moved through two distinct chapters that have shaped how I practice. The first half was spent in the world of substance use — working with individuals and families where the stakes were high and the complexity was real. The last several years have been in private practice, where I've worked with the full range of human struggle: depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, substance use disorders, parenting stress, and the disorienting moments when life shifts beneath your feet. I work with individuals, couples, and groups. Very few things surprise me at this point — and that's exactly what makes this work feel safe.
I have a Master's in social work and have been practicing for over 35 years. I am very client- centered. My goal is for you to achieve what you are coming for. I strive to do itI t in the least amount of time as possible. I am certified in EMDR and trained in other trauma focused approaches.
My counseling style is laid-back. I have been described as supportive, caring, and compassionate, with a good sense of humor. I like to focus on identifying your strengths and helping you to maximize them to overcome your obstacles. I am here to help you sort through the difficult things right now and offer you a safe place to be open and honest without fear of judgment.
Hi, I’m Tammy. I believe therapy should feel like a supportive conversation—a two-sided dialogue built on warmth, compassion, and a genuine desire to understand your unique story.
As a therapist, I am dedicated to creating a safe and open-minded environment where we can work together to turn your challenges into strengths
I earned my bachelors degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders and my Master of Social Work degrees from Michigan State University and am a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW). I also hold a certification in working with combat veterans, providing specialized training in understanding military culture, combat-related trauma, moral injury, reintegration, and the unique experiences that can continue long after service ends. This has also aided me in expanding my practice from veterans and active-duty service members to law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS, and other first responders. Other areas in which I specialize are with individuals working through anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, life transitions, relationship concerns, and other mental health challenges.
I approach therapy with respect, curiosity, and a bit of humor. I offer trauma-informed care which has led me to work with people who have gone through hard times and survived. I earned my master’s degree from Michigan State University and have stayed in the East Lansing area since then, working in local residential treatment facilities for teens and in an outpatient intensive treatment program with adults. I have spent the last 15 years working with adults in crisis, whether that is temporary situations like relationship issues or more chronic conditions.
I am passionate about counseling because I believe every person has the capacity to heal, grow, and create meaningful change. It is a privilege to walk alongside my clients as they overcome obstacles, rediscover their strengths, and build lives that reflect their values and goals.
Is your child struggling with anxiety, depression, or trauma? Parenting in today’s world is harder than ever, and you don’t have to navigate these challenges alone. I offer a safe, supportive space where your child can develop coping strategies, emotional awareness, and inner resilience. Together, we can help your child build the skills they need to thrive, while also providing you with the tools to support them at home.
