Oftentimes the beginning of any new journey can feel intimidating and overwhelming. Taking that first step toward something unknown can bring uncertainty, vulnerability, and discomfort. As your counselor, my goal is to meet you where you are, creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard, understood, and accepted. I believe that healing and growth happen through genuine connection and collaboration. Together, we will identify realistic goals that align with your unique needs and values, while working at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Whether you are carrying the weight of trauma, feeling worn down by anxiety or depression, or working through a painful loss or a strained relationship, you deserve a space where you feel understood and genuinely supported. I am Shanda, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 28 years of experience walking alongside adults, couples, and families through life's hardest seasons. My style is open-minded, empowering, and solution-oriented. I will meet you with warmth and without judgment, and I focus on real, practical steps forward. When you are ready, I would be honored to see if we are a good fit.
I don't believe anyone's story is ever over. Life can leave us carrying burdens we never expected. Anxiety, depression, broken relationships, grief, trauma, addiction, or simply the weight of holding everything together can make it feel like peace is out of reach. But I believe that pain does not define you, and it does not get the final word. As a Christian counselor, it is my mission to help people find hope and strength in the middle of life's hardest moments. Healing doesn't pretend the past never happened, but it does mean that your wounds don't have to control your future. I utilize a mix of evidence based practices, which includes trauma informed care, that align with God's design to help you get as close as you can to the peace you were designed to live with.
I specialize in supporting adults navigating trauma, anxiety, relationship challenges, and major life transitions. My ideal clients often come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck in painful patterns, disconnected from themselves, or weighed down by past experiences that continue to shape their emotions, relationships, and daily lives. Together, we create space to better understand those experiences and begin building a path toward healing and growth.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Professional Mental Health Clinician, and Life Coach with over 25 years of experience providing inpatient and outpatient mental health therapy, as well as more than 30 years of working alongside individuals to help them create meaningful and lasting change in their lives. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Florida State University, a master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Georgia, and I am an active member of the Phi Alpha Honor Society.
I believe that the most powerful change happens when clients feel safe, accepted, and empowered to be themselves. My ideal client is motivated, engaged, and open to self-reflection—but in truth, everyone is welcome in my practice. Whether you’re struggling with past trauma, navigating current challenges, or simply looking to grow, my goal is to provide a supportive, judgment-free space where we can work together toward your goals. More importantly, EVERYONE is welcome to my practice!

Find the right couples therapist for you
Headway makes it easy to find support for your relationship — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Couples Therapist in Hialeah
Searching for couples therapists in Hialeah starts with naming what you want to work on together. Couples therapy in Hialeah may focus on communication patterns, recurring conflict, trust after infidelity, parenting disagreements, or major life transitions. Not all therapists have specific training in working with couples, so it helps to look for a licensed marriage and family therapist or a therapist who lists couples counseling, marriage counseling, the Gottman Method, or Emotionally Focused Therapy in their profile.
In Hialeah, finding one therapist who fits both partners’ needs can take some planning. Location, appointment time, language preferences, and session format may all affect the right match. Some couples prefer an in-person office nearby, while others use virtual sessions to make scheduling easier across two calendars. Before booking, read therapist bios for details on how they structure sessions, how they work with both partners, and whether they offer a brief initial consultation to assess fit.
Marriage counseling in Hialeah can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and understand your expected out-of-pocket cost before care begins. Headway helps you search for couples counseling in Hialeah, review therapist profiles, enter your insurance details, and book directly when you’re ready.
If you're experiencing or worried about violence, threats, or coercion in your relationship, couples therapy isn't usually the right starting point — individual support is safer. The National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788\) can help you think through next steps.
