I specialize in medication management in treating mood, anxiety, psychotic, and substance use disorders. In the past, I worked as an RN in a dual diagnosis inpatient psychiatric unit. Recently, I have working in an outpatient private practice.
My name is Sarah Cardenas. I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW-C) based in central Maryland, and the founder of Two Sparrows Counseling of Maryland. I primarily work with children ages 5 and up, moms, and individuals navigating recovery from substance use, gambling, or other addictions.
I also offer Christian counseling for clients who would like to incorporate their faith into our work together.
As a mom myself, I know how important it is for kids to have the support they need to grow - and how easily moms' own needs get pushed to the back burner while they carry so much for everyone else. And having grown up in central Maryland, I've seen firsthand what addiction can do to a community. Helping people fight their way back from it isn't just professional work for me - it's personal calling.
I am an LCSW-C, an Orthodox Jewish mother of three, and a psychotherapist. I am a trauma-informed, integrative therapist who helps clients navigate anxiety, OCD, trauma, life transitions, grief, emotional regulation, marriage and relationships, and women’s mental health, including body image, self-esteem, parenting and motherhood, perinatal and postpartum experiences, and perimenopause.
I draw from evidence-based approaches including CBT, CPT, IFS, ACT, and somatic techniques, tailoring treatment to each client’s unique needs and goals. My approach is compassionate and collaborative, with an emphasis on tangible progress, practical tools, and meaningful change. I strive to create a safe, structured, and empowering space where clients can process their experiences, build resilience, expand their emotional toolbox, and move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and agency.
I’m a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner who works with children, teens, and adults. I help people manage depression, anxiety, ADHD, mood disorders, and life stress using thoughtful, evidence-based care. I believe in listening first and creating a plan that actually fits your life. My goal is to help you feel more balanced, focused, and supported.
