I work to get to know my client's, to understand where they are coming from, and to provide feedback with a goal to promote healing and positive change. I draw on my 37 years of work in this counseling, and multiple levels of education.
Many of the people I work with are intelligent, capable, and doing their best to keep up with the demands of daily life, yet internally they feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or stuck. You may find yourself constantly overthinking, struggling to stay organized, starting tasks but having difficulty finishing them, or feeling frustrated that things seem harder for you than they do for others. Perhaps your mind rarely slows down, your to-do list feels impossible to tackle, or you're carrying anxiety, stress, or depression that leaves you feeling drained and disconnected from the life you want to be living. Therapy can be a place to better understand what's getting in the way and develop strategies that actually work for you.
Seeking help takes courage, and I strive to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and respected without judgment. I believe that every person's story is unique, and mental health care should reflect that. My goal is to build a collaborative relationship where we work together to understand your concerns, identify your strengths, and develop a treatment plan that aligns with your values and goals.
As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I provide evidence-based medication management while taking the time to understand the whole person, not just symptoms.
Hi. I'm Susan (Simmons) Martinelli and, simply stated, "I love people"...every individual one. I have over 30 years' experience in the mental health field with people who may also suffer with substance use and addiction or vice versa. The two often go hand-in-hand and it can be a devastating and life-changing moment to realize you possibly have either a mental illness and/ or a substance/ alcohol use problem. I simply want to help you find your healthy path...whatever that is for you. I look forward to learning about you as a person and what we can accomplish together.
I believe we’re all doing the best we can, and that belief guides my work as a therapist. I care deeply about people and feel honored to be someone you can bring the hard things to. I’m down-to-earth, professional, and shaped by a diverse background that led me to counseling as my life’s work.
I am open minded, kind, direct, and empowering. I encourage others to improve their skills.
I am a certified cognitive behavioral therapist who is also mindful of the emotions we feel as humans. I believe therapy is holistic—mind, body, and well-being. My goal is to create a safe and judgment-free place to help guide and support you. I was previously an elementary school teacher. I am neurodivergent and enjoy working with the neurodivergent population.
Are you feeling trapped? As if you're navigating through a thick fog, drained, or restless? Are you having nightmares, overwhelmed by your emotions, or finding yourself easily triggered? It's important to remember that you're not alone on this journey. By taking steps to comprehend and address these emotions, you can embark on a path toward healing and personal growth.

Find the right therapist for you
Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Therapist in Little Rock
Finding the right therapist in Little Rock starts with getting clear on what you're looking for. Whether you need support with anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, trauma, or something else, look for a licensed provider — such as an LPC, LCSW, psychologist, or psychiatrist — who has experience with your specific concerns. Reading a provider's bio can help you understand their approach and decide if they're a good match before you commit.
With hundreds of mental health providers practicing across the Little Rock metro area, narrowing your options can take time. Consider what matters most to you: a provider who specializes in a specific area, someone who offers virtual sessions, or a practice close to your neighborhood in Pulaski Heights, Chenal Valley, or North Little Rock. A free phone consultation can also help you decide if a provider feels like the right fit.
Therapy in Little Rock can be expensive without insurance. Using your in-network benefits is one of the most reliable ways to lower your out-of-pocket costs. On Headway, you can enter your insurance details to see estimated session costs upfront, and many patients pay as low as $0 per visit. Nationally, Headway partners with over 100 insurance plans, making it easier to find a therapist who is both the right clinical fit and covered by your plan.
