She specializes in various areas of psychotherapy in including – Christian focused, Trauma focused, Addiction and recovery, Veteran PTSD and Military sexual trauma, depression/anxiety/bipolar disorder, Grief and victims of abuse.

For over eight years, I have provided individual and group therapy to clients addressing problematic sexual behaviors and intimacy issues. As a Licensed Professional Counselor and OR SOTB Certified Clinical Sex Offense Therapist, I deliver client-centered therapy, encompassing a broad spectrum of mental health challenges, with a specialization in sexual dysfunction and antisocial behaviors.
With over 20 years of experience in the mental health field, I've had the privilege of working across a wide range of treatment settings, including acute care, non-acute care, residential treatment, and outpatient therapy. I work with adolescents and adults and have experience providing individual and couples therapy.
My primary areas of focus include relationship counseling using the Gottman Method, chronic pain and chronic illness through Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), addiction treatment informed by the work of Dr. Carl Hart, and Borderline Personality Disorder using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
In addition to these specialty areas, I frequently help clients navigate anxiety, panic attacks, depression, life transitions, adjustment disorders, parenting challenges, workplace stress, and the everyday demands that can leave us all feeling overwhelmed!
Percy Ford, MC, LPC-MHSP established Lighthouse Correctional Counseling and Mental Health Services in 2012 to provide Individual Psychotherapy, Family Counseling, Group Therapy and Couples Counseling to offenders and their families. Mr. Ford earned a BS in Social Work from Tuskegee University in 1997 and graduated from Argosy University School of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences in 2007 with a MA in Professional Counseling.
Sharmen Rutherford is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Mental Health Service Provider, Internationally Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and a Ketamine Integration Therapist. She is currently accruing hours to earn her Certified Eating Disorder Specialist credential through the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals and has completed Vital’s Psychedelics Assisted Psychotherapy and Ketamine Integration Therapy Program.
With more than 17 years of professional clinical experience in the counseling field, Sharmen has helped clients facing addiction and substance use disorders, anxiety, co-occurring disorders, depression, eating disorders, trauma, PTSD, self-harm, school pressures, relationship issues, loss and grief. It is her passion to provide college students, young adults, women, and men with the tools and resources that they need to cope and make a better life for themselves.
Sharmen holds a Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Alabama. She has provided mental health services to adolescents and adults for numerous local mental health organizations, including an alternative school, the Alabama Department of Mental Health at Taylor Hardin Secure Medical Facility, two residential substance abuse treatment facilities, and a halfway house.
Sharmen is a former Advisory Board member and a Board of Directors member for 3 years for the Alabama School of Alcohol and other Drug Studies. She is also a former Board of Directors Hospitality Chair and Secretary of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals for the Alabama Chapter.
Launched in June 2018, Sharmen is also the founder of All Things New Counseling Services, LLC located in Johnson City, Tennessee.
