Welcome. I’m glad you’re here.

Reaching out for support can feel overwhelming. I aim to create a safe, collaborative, and grounded space from the beginning. I meet clients where they are and move at a pace that feels manageable and respectful.

I work with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families experiencing anxiety, trauma, addiction, and relationship challenges. I also specialize in complex and developmental trauma.

I support clients in integrating their spiritual and cultural values into therapy when desired and clinically appropriate. I was born in New Orleans and bring a culturally informed perspective shaped by my Latina, Indigenous, Christian, and Sephardic Jewish backgrounds.

I became a therapist because I have a deep commitment to helping people recognize and build their own strengths, especially during periods of feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected. I understand that seeking support takes courage, and I work to create a space where clients feel heard, understood, and supported throughout the process.

I earned a Master of Social Work (MSW) and PhD from Tulane University, as well as a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Louisiana and Texas, and a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in Minnesota. I also hold a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), Licensed Prevention Professional (LPP), and Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP).

Hello! I’m Gwen Scherr, a marriage and family therapist who supports couples, families, and individuals across the lifespan who may be tired of just coping through life and are ready to move toward deeper healing and growth. I work with clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship issues, family issues, identity concerns, and the stress that can come from feeling disconnected from yourself or the people you love. Many of the people I work with want more than symptom relief — they want to feel more grounded, understood, and able to thrive in their relationships and daily lives. Taking that initial step into therapy can be daunting. Sharing your story is a vulnerable position no doubt, and I am proud of you for even making the decision to seek help. Because I know how much courage this takes, I absolutely promise to honor you and walk alongside of you as you work towards your goals in counseling. In addition to helping individuals with anxiety and depression, I am certified in dialectical behavior therapy and practice accelerated resolution therapy. I also incorporate christian counseling, sand-tray therapy, mindfulness based-therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and incorporate narrative therapy techniques.

Welcome! I’m Kristin Petersen, MSW, LICSW, and I’ve been a psychotherapist for more than 13 years. I primarily work with women and individuals who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the many pressures that can leave you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from yourself.

My experience includes working with children, adolescents, and adults from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. I’ve supported clients through both everyday challenges and more complex concerns, including trauma, co-occurring conditions, behavioral concerns, and significant life changes. I believe your experiences, relationships, culture, and personal history all matter when understanding what you are going through.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and honest. I won’t simply tell you what you “should” do. Instead, we’ll work together to understand what’s happening, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop practical strategies that fit your life. I draw from cognitive and person-centered approaches and incorporate solution-focused strategies to help you build insight while also making meaningful changes.

Therapy is a place where you can be honest without fear of judgment. Whether you’re starting therapy for the first time or returning because something in your life no longer feels manageable, my goal is to help you feel heard, understood, and supported while developing the tools and confidence to move forward.

You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin. We can start exactly where you are.

I bring over a decade of professional experience to therapy along with my own life experiences, empathy, understanding, and hopefully a little humor along the way.

While my license is as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I strive to live my own life as authentically and intentionally as I can as a parent, family member, and friend; and I bring those same values into the therapy room.

I believe every person has a story worth telling and deserves to feel heard without judgment. It is truly an honor to witness the strength and resilience my clients possess, and I never take for granted the trust they place in me by allowing me to be part of their journey.
