More that fifteen years of teaching English and drama at a Los Angeles public high school taught me many things - primarily, it taught me how often people's barriers to achievement are not due to any lack of skill or ability, but rather from emotional barriers stemming from stress, adversity and trauma. So, I went back to graduate school to pursue a new career as a therapist so that I could help in a different way. My training and experience has focused on treating anxiety disorders, PTSD (including Complex-PTSD) and also couples - helping them to navigate challenges and triggers so that they can reset and reconnect.

Find the right couples therapist for you

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Couples Therapist in Los Angeles
Searching for couples therapists in Los Angeles starts with understanding what you and your partner want to work on together. Couples therapy in Los Angeles may focus on communication patterns, recurring conflict, trust after infidelity, major life changes, parenting disagreements, or premarital counseling. Not all therapists have specific training in couples counseling, so look for licensed marriage and family therapists or therapists who list couples-focused approaches, such as the Gottman Method or emotionally focused therapy, in their profiles.
LA has many therapists across neighborhoods like Hollywood, Silver Lake, Westwood, Koreatown, and the Valley, which can make the search feel broad without clear filters. For couples, logistics matter because one therapist needs to fit both partners’ schedules, location preferences, and session format. Some people prefer an in-person office that works with their commute, while others choose virtual appointments to make scheduling easier. Read therapist bios before booking to understand how each therapist structures couples sessions, supports both partners, and approaches relationship counseling.
Los Angeles couples therapy can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and understand what you may pay before starting care. Headway helps you find couples therapists who are accepting new patients, review detailed profiles, check estimated out-of-pocket costs, and book directly when you’re ready.
If you're experiencing or worried about violence, threats, or coercion in your relationship, couples therapy isn't usually the right starting point — individual support is safer. The National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788\) can help you think through next steps.
