Know that I'm trained in EMDR and trauma-focused CBT, and that I got here by way of ministry work with survivors of trafficking before becoming a counselor — so I don't flinch at hard stories. Bring me your anxiety, your ADHD-scattered days, your trauma, or the relationship patterns you keep repeating. Expect direct feedback, not just nodding along, and expect me to treat you as capable of change from the first session.
I am a compassionate counselor and easy to get to know. I am excellent listener
Before earning my Masters in Counseling, I earned a PhD in social and personality psychology. This background deeply informs how I show up as a therapist. I help clients address unresolved trauma and grief, anxiety and OCD, address relationship issues, as well as "problems of everyday living." My style is active, engaged, and practical.
My name is Amy Plettner and I have 7 years professional experience. I received my masters degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee.
I have been doing this work since 2009 — which means I have sat with a lot of people through a lot of different kinds of hard. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling with a dual focus in professional counseling and marriage and family therapy, and my career has moved through two distinct chapters that have shaped how I practice. The first half was spent in the world of substance use — working with individuals and families where the stakes were high and the complexity was real. The last several years have been in private practice, where I've worked with the full range of human struggle: depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, substance use disorders, parenting stress, and the disorienting moments when life shifts beneath your feet. I work with individuals, couples, and groups. Very few things surprise me at this point — and that's exactly what makes this work feel safe.
I personally know what it is like to struggle with anxiety and despair. I also know what it is like to go to therapy and to get little benefit from it. Many years ago, my emotional life changed dramatically when I stumbled onto resources that addressed my actual needs, and subsequently I devoted myself to a career promoting better mental health practices than I was taught when I was young.
Simply put, I teach people six interrelated psychological skills that you can use to transform your life. If all you want to do is explore the past, I'm not your best option - I focus on the past only enough to get us moving toward the future you want. I love to help people develop psychological superpowers that they can use to get the life they always hoped for, starting from where they are now and moving forward into a future they find worthwhile.
Tired of feeling overwhelmed, stressed out or anxious? Do you find yourself overthinking or worrying about any and everything? Do you experience a rapid heart beat, sweaty palms, dry mouth and shaking? Feeling on edge, irritable or tense? All these things keep you from enjoying your life. They hold you back in your career or in relationships or other areas of life. You want to feel at ease and less stressed out. You want to go after what you want without second guessing yourself.
I help client's develop life-changing habits that allow them to cope with any of life’s various obstacles that provokes anxiety. During therapy sessions we will work together to identify goals and map out a plan to reach those goals. You'll receive tools that you can start using today and the validation and care that you deserve.
You will find a supportive, non judgmental, safe space to share. Contact me to schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation so I can answer any questions you have before we get started.
Hi there! If you keep struggling and feel you have either tried everything or don't trust traditional therapy - I get it. Let's discuss a different approach...
I effectively treat anxiety, depressive symptoms, compulsive behaviors (sex, porn, OCD, etc), and most life challenges using Internal Family Systems (IFS) with EMDR.
IFS, or "parts work" is a revolutionary approach that's not the same as typical talk therapy. Couple targeted parts work with EMDR, and that is a powerful and effective trauma recovery approach that results in life transformation.
I offer an understanding, compassionate ear in a welcoming virtual setting.
I look forward to meeting you!
I am a Licensed Therapist with over two decades of experience, holding a Master’s degree in Social Work since 2003. My approach is grounded in empathy, respect, and a deep commitment to supporting each client’s unique journey toward healing and personal growth.
