My name is Dr. Llena Carter. I am originally from the southside of Chicago. I have lived in four different states and traveled to over 40; including teaching/traveling abroad for multiple summers. I have been a therapist for over 20 years and have a breadth of experience. I see therapy as a sacred space where trust and nonjudgment are essential. I am specifically passionate about providing support for persons of color and oppressed populations where therapy may be otherwise stigmatized. I studied at The University of Akron and received my masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Clinical Counseling. I specialize in working with couples and families and have been known to have a direct, supportive and empowering approach. I have experience in working in outpatient, partial hospitalization, residential and inpatient facilities.
I obtained by master's degree in 2023 from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I have experience working with diverse populations, including individuals managing anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. I specialize in trauma therapy, PTSD treatment, anxiety and OCD treatment, and substance use/addiction. I have additional experience working with survivors of domestic/intimate partner violence and human trafficking. I have recently obtained my credential as a Certified Trauma Professional (CTP).

I became a therapist later in life after working many years in manufacturing and as a mail carrier. A journey of personal growth and healing led me to a career as a therapist.
