It takes immense courage to enter therapy, and I am here to walk alongside you on that journey. My path to becoming a therapist was non-linear and deeply rewarding. Before transitioning into clinical social work, I worked as a IT professional, then lived overseas caring for family, and volunteering in community support roles. These diverse life experiences have given me a profound appreciation for cultural adaptability, systemic challenges, and the complex transitions we all face. I bring this perspective into the therapy room, offering you a compassionate, non-judgmental environment to explore, grow, and thrive.
With over twenty-seven years of diverse nursing experience, particularly in Emergency Room and Mental Health settings, such as St. Elizabeth Hospital, Providence Hospital, and the Psychiatric Institute of Washington. These positions have equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of both clinical excellence and operational efficiency.
I am a licensed therapist with over a decade of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and grounded in respect for each person’s story and strengths.
I integrate evidence-based practices—such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Family Systems approaches—with a culturally responsive and trauma-informed lens. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions, gain clarity, and move toward lasting change.
I work with clients experiencing a wide range of concerns, including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship or family conflict, grief, identity transitions, and the effects of trauma. I also have extensive experience supporting people from diverse cultural and family backgrounds who are balancing multiple roles, expectations, and life transitions.
Clients often describe me as compassionate, down-to-earth, and empowering. Together, we’ll focus on uncovering your resilience, improving communication and connection, and finding practical strategies for growth and healing—so you can live with greater confidence, balance, and purpose.
Welcome. I’m Dr. Tawnya H. Brown, a clinically licensed social worker based in Maryland and licensed to practice in MD, DC, and VA. For over 28 years, I have supported individuals and families through life’s most difficult and meaningful transitions, with a special focus on working with families, youth, and young adults.
Reaching out for support is one of the most important steps you can take as you begin a new chapter in your life. Whether you are dealing with depression, trauma, major life changes, difficult transitions, challenging relationship decisions, self-esteem or self-worth concerns, or simply feeling that the way you are managing life is not helping you move toward a better place, you do not have to walk through it alone.
I am here to walk alongside you with compassion, understanding, and hope. Together, we can work toward healing, clarity, and growth—and get to the other side of this stronger, healthier, and with renewed hope.
You weren't meant to carry the weight of life alone. Healing begins when you have a safe space to pause, reflect, and be fully seen, heard, and supported without judgment. My goal is to help you reconnect with your strengths, gain clarity, and move forward with intention. Whether you're facing anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, life transitions, grief, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, impulse control challenges, or recovering from domestic violence, we'll work together to understand what's beneath the surface, develop practical tools for lasting change, and create a life rooted in balance, resilience, and hope.
I am a dedicated mental health professional with 13 years of experience in the field, specializing in supporting individuals facing a range of mental health challenges. I can provide my services in English and Spanish. My areas of expertise include working with clients experiencing bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders.
I hold dual licenses: Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Washington, DC. This allows me to provide comprehensive care to clients across both jurisdictions.
I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor who works with women, adolescents, and young adults navigating anxiety, burnout, trauma, life transitions, and the emotional challenges that come with trying to hold everything together.
Many of my clients are the people others rely on. They're hardworking, responsible, and often look like they're doing just fine from the outside. Internally, though, they may be struggling with overthinking, self-doubt, people-pleasing, relationship challenges, or the weight of past experiences that still show up in their everyday lives.
Hi, I'm Evelyn! As a licensed clinical social worker and certified perinatal mental health professional, I believe healing happens best in real, honest relationships. I always say, "Congrats on taking this step" because I know reaching out isn't always easy. I love working with women navigating trauma, identity, relationships, and motherhood blending attachment-based care with faith-integrated counseling for those who want it.
