You might look like you have it together from the outside: steady job, functioning relationships, managing the day to day. But inside you're running on fumes, and you're tired of just pushing through. I work with young adults, college students, and adults navigating anxiety, stress, life transitions, and the frustration of feeling stuck without knowing why. I'm also an Army veteran, and I bring firsthand experience of what pressure, resilience, and major transitions actually demand. If faith is part of how you make sense of life, it's welcome here. If it's not, that's fine too. Clients often tell me I'm surprisingly easy to talk to.

Hi and welcome!
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, I believe small actions can lead to substantial progress, and it all begins with asking for help. I have been practicing for the last 13 years through Veteran Affairs. I have worked mainly with individuals with chronic pain and substance use disorders, but also work with individuals living with depression and anxiety. I specialize in working with adults 21 and up.
I take a fresh, integrative approach to individualized psychotherapy, tailoring my treatment approach to each client's unique needs and goals. My work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which helps clients better understand and regulate their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and reactions.
I also incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), helping clients develop greater acceptance of difficult emotions and circumstances that may be out of their control while taking meaningful action aligned with their personal values. With seven years of experience as a Group Facilitator and Individual Therapist in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I utilize evidence-based skills and mindfulness practices to help clients improve emotional regulation, increase self-awareness, and build resilience.
I'm Nicole Shelton, a double board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health and Family Nurse Practitioner (APRN, PMHNP, FNP). My experience in ICU and the ER informs my holistic approach to care. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, substance use, and trauma across the lifespan. As a military wife and mother, I emphasize lifestyle balance, encouraging patients to integrate nutrition and exercise. I am dedicated to breaking mental health stigma and advocating for veterans and those impacted by trauma, ensuring you feel seen, supported, and empowered on your journey.
I work with adults, seniors and adolescents who are experiencing many different kinds of
challenges. These can include anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, life transitions,
work stress, and trauma. My approach is collaborative, and I try to create an environment
where people feel comfortable talking about what is happening in their lives.
I listen carefully and seek to understand each client’s unique circumstances.
Helping people better understand themselves remains at the center of my approach.
This can include recognizing patterns and finding more effective ways of handling the
difficulties they face.

I work with clients 18+ with presenting issues including depression, anxiety, grief, and more to improve areas such as emotion regulation and distress tolerance. I also enjoy working with those in the LGBTQIA+ community and am a member of the community myself!
