For the past 35 years I have helped clients work through troubling life situations. Throughout my career I have worked with a broad spectrum of clients from every walk of life. I have treated people struggling with a wide range of problems; depression, anxiety, marital difficulties, infidelity, loss of a job, domestic violence, PTSD or other life altering circumstances. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with almost 20 years of professional work experience addressing a range of mental health issues across the lifespan. Most of my life was spent in East Tennessee but my career experience began in Virginia where I obtained my counseling license in 2014. In 2020 I moved to Yuma, Arizona, and am eligible to work with clients in both states.

Education and Credentials:

I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2003 from Radford University in Radford, Virginia. I soon followed it with my Master's degree in Counseling in 2007 at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. In 2021 I received my School Counseling Certificate from the state of Arizona.

In therapy with me you will find that I emphasize acceptance of emotions, reframing negative thinking, and offering self-grace. I try to help you dig deeper to get the root issue that is causing you to be different than the way you want to be.

I am a board-certified Nurse Practitioner with training in both primary care and psychiatric mental health. I have extensive experience providing care in community, correctional, and integrated care settings, where I work with individuals managing anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, and other mental health concerns.

I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard and respected. I value thoughtful assessment, clear communication, and collaborative decision-making to help clients better understand their symptoms and treatment options. My goal is to partner with each client to develop a personalized care plan that supports both mental and overall well-being.

I received my Master's Degree in Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University. I provided community-based mental healthcare and school-based mental healthcare before beginning my practice. I enjoy working with young people and adults to identify goals, harness strengths, and manage barriers to success.

I am Amanda Wheeler, owner for HealTHY Mind PLLC. A bit about me; I have over 15 years experience of working with families and children. More recently, my work has been primarily with perinatal mothers experiencing depression, anxiety and social isolation. I support natural remedies such as nutrition, exercise, support systems, and meditation in addition to talk therapy and medication management.

I support people living with substance use concerns and the partners, parents, and adult children who care about them. I also work with people navigating anxiety, depression, panic, OCD, ADHD, PTSD, and women's mental health, including postpartum concerns. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with experience in both outpatient therapy and residential care, so I've worked with people at the very start of recovery and years into it. I'm trained in EMDR, Seeking Safety, Motivational Interviewing, and CBT. I'll meet you with warmth and respect for where you are today.

I am a board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner for over 5 years, and I am also a board certified adult nurse practitioner for over 12 years. I began my nursing career graduating from university of MD with my bachelors, and then attended Johns Hopkins University for my masters. I decided to further my education by attending Brandman University to obtain my Doctorate and psychiatric mental health certification in 2018.
