I'm Summer Birmingham and I'm a licensed professional counselor. I hold a masters in clinical counseling from Sam Houston State University and have worked with various populations and in many behavioral health roles throughout my career. I have practiced counseling for over 10 years and have had the privilege of helping many clients find growth, empowerment, healing, and peace.
I have significant experience working with the LGBTQIA+ population and with individuals navigating career and life transitions. I also specialize in working with individuals managing ADHD, anxiety, and depression.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s degree in Counseling and Development, specializing in Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling, I offer a culturally responsive, integrative, and systems-oriented approach to therapy and coaching. I work with teens 12+, adults, couples, and families who are ready to better understand what is happening in their lives and relationships—and begin creating meaningful change. Together, we explore the patterns influencing emotional well-being, communication, relationships, and personal growth while developing practical strategies that fit your unique needs.
I also support clients navigating sexual concerns, including sexual dysfunction, intimacy, and sexual well-being and pleasure, as well as the psychological and relational aspects of fertility challenges. My goal is to provide a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel understood, gain clarity about what may be keeping you stuck, and become more confident in moving forward. Through our work together, we can turn challenges into opportunities for growth, strengthen relationships and family systems, and build practical skills that you can continue using beyond the therapy room.
You may be feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed, or emotionally stuck - functioning on the outside while struggling internally. I work with children, adolescents, and adults dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD, day to day stressors or the effects of past or ongoing stress and trauma. Many clients are thoughtful and capable but feel on edge, emotionally shut down, reactive, or unsure why things feel so hard. Parents often seek support when their child is struggling with big emotions, anxiety, mood changes, or behavior that feels confusing or concerning. Clients want relief, clarity, and to feel more steady and in control again.
I have over 12 years working with children, teens, and adults in the mental healthcare space. I have worked in numerous areas including community clinics, foster care, court systems, residential facilities, and more. I am licensed in both CA and TX and hold many certifications for therapy models.
My wide scope of practice supports children, adolescents, and adults with trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, and stress-related concerns. I also help clients manage everyday overwhelm, emotional reactivity, and burnout—not just major diagnoses. I work with individuals, couples, and families navigating grief, anger, relationship conflict, life transitions, and behavioral or emotional challenges.
Relationships can change over time but feeling disconnected doesn't have to be the end of the story.
I work with adults who want to better understand themselves and create healthier, more connected relationships. I have a particular interest in supporting people in long-term relationships who are navigating communication challenges, recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, changes in intimacy, or the feeling that they’ve become more like roommates than partners.
Therapy can be a space to slow down and understand what is happening beneath the surface. Together, we'll explore self-worth, communication, emotional and physical intimacy, boundaries, conflict patterns, emotional regulation, and coping skills. We’ll also look at how past experiences and beliefs about yourself may influence the way you communicate, connect, set boundaries, or respond when you feel hurt or misunderstood.
My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and practical. I integrate CBT, mindfulness, acceptance-based approaches, and trauma-informed therapy to help you develop greater self-awareness and the tools to create meaningful change.
You don't have to wait until your relationship is falling apart to seek support. Therapy can help you reconnect with yourself, with your partner, and with the kind of relationship you want to create.
My name is MacKenzie, and I’m a proud Texas native from the Panhandle. After earning my Bachelor’s in Psychology in 2012, I began my career in the helping field and later completed my Master’s in Counseling at West Texas A&M University in 2016.
I began by working with teens in foster care and later transitioned to supporting youth involved in the juvenile justice system. I then spent over a decade working in public schools, providing mental health support to students, families, and staff. In addition to my work with teens, I developed a deep appreciation for working with women during my time at a nonprofit counseling agency.
I have also been involved in helping found a local nonprofit organization that provides free counseling services to youth. I currently serve as a board member of the Amarillo Mental Health Professionals group and volunteer with American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, including engaging in public policy advocacy at both the state and federal levels.
I’m passionate about empowering others and helping them to heal, grow, and find their voice. My counseling style is eclectic, with a strong foundation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor with
over 10 years of experience helping
people work through life challenges and
the negative thought processes that keep
them stuck. A lot of my work is about
helping clients become emotionally
resilient, using mindfulness and other
practical tools from the theories that fit
each person best. If you're carrying
anxiety, unresolved trauma,
or strain in your closest relationships, you
don't have to sort it out on your own. I
work with teenagers, adults and seniors, including a
lot of men who didn't expect therapy to
be for them.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, I believe addressing mental health concerns affects every area of our well-being. I have practiced for 5 years, but over the last couple of years, I have added EMDR training and draw on various counseling approaches based on the individual. My clients range from their early 20s to 80 years old.
