Hello! My name is JoAnna and my primary specialty is trauma. I am certified in EMDR and am an EMDR consultant for other EMDR Therapists. I also specialize in domestic violence, narcissistic abuse recovery, addiction, mental health (bipolar, depression, anxiety, ADHD), Dissociation and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), chronic illness, spiritual/religious abuse recovery. In addition to using EMDR, I am also attachment and somatic focused in my therapeutic approach. I provide Christian Counseling upon request.
Many of the individuals I work with come to therapy feeling emotionally drained, overwhelmed, and trapped in patterns of survival rather than truly living. They may find themselves constantly overthinking, struggling to relax, carrying the weight of past experiences, feeling disconnected from their emotions, or wondering why they no longer feel like themselves. Others may be experiencing relationship challenges, difficulty trusting others, or feeling stuck despite their best efforts to move forward.
Using a person-centered, trauma-informed approach, I provide a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where you can safely explore your experiences, gain deeper self-understanding, and begin healing at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Together, we will identify the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, develop healthier coping strategies, and work toward creating meaningful and lasting change.
I believe that healing happens within the context of a strong therapeutic relationship. My approach is grounded in empathy, authenticity, and genuine connection, allowing you to feel heard, understood, and supported throughout your journey. Whether you are processing trauma, navigating anxiety or depression, struggling in your relationships, or facing a major life transition, our work together will focus on helping you reconnect with your strengths, build self-confidence, improve emotional well-being, and create a more fulfilling and balanced life.
With 18 years of experience in the mental health field and 7 years as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I specialize in working with adolescents, and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, emotional overwhelm, and life transitions. My passion is helping clients move beyond merely surviving and toward living with greater peace, resilience, connection, and purpose.
What empowers people to change? A clear direction and the tools needed to succeed. Thats why my counseling approach focuses on YOU and taking steps toward your own definition of success. With a mixture of existentialism, family systems, and cognitive therapies, we will work to discover what you hope to change in your life and walk through the steps needed to get there. Whether you are struggling with aspects of your relationships, identity, life stressors, grief, trauma, or you just need some general direction, we will focus on what matters to you.
My strength is my warmth and quickness in building a trusting where my clients are truly cared for. I am creative with collaborating on solutions, creative in the interventions I choose. I am thoughtful in making meaningful connections within the material processed.
I am a well-rounded therapist with both practical CBT skills and a training in family systems theory background.
I have 3 years of experience working within welfare services for children, parents, and within the foster care system, with experience navigating difficult circumstances.
If you struggle with depression, anxiety and trauma, I would be honored to help guide you through your healing journey.
