I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 25 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults. I'm also a Certified School Counselor — which means I've spent decades not just in therapy offices, but inside schools, alongside kids and families navigating the real, daily pressures of growing up, parenting, and finding your way.

That breadth of experience shapes everything about how I work. I understand what it looks like when anxiety shows up in a classroom, when ADHD affects a family's daily life, or when an eating disorder hides behind achievement. And I know how to create a space where children, teens, and adults alike feel safe enough to actually open up.

My path to becoming a mental health provider grew out of a combination of personal experience, professional curiosity, and a deep desire to help others feel empowered in their own lives. Early experiences with trauma shaped the way I understand healing, resilience, and the importance of having support during life’s most overwhelming moments. While challenging, those experiences ultimately planted the seed for what would become my career.

I am deeply interested in the ways people adapt, survive, and make meaning out of hardship. This led me to pursue formal training in trauma-informed care and evidence-based therapeutic approaches, along with a commitment to ongoing continuing education. Over more than a decade of practice, I have supported individuals navigating trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, family violence, grief, and major life transitions.

Susan Goodwin is a highly qualified and experienced therapist holding licenses as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC). With a passion for helping individuals overcome mental health and substance use challenges, Susan brings a wealth of expertise to her practice.

After overcoming some of my own personal struggles by utilizing therapy, I began my career in mental health with a deep passion for helping people find healing and purpose through some of life’s most difficult moments. Over the years, I’ve been privileged to work with people struggling with addictions and codependency, mental health issues, including bipolar, depression, anxiety, ADHD and others. My perspective as a therapist is eclectic, collaborative and client-centered, with each session thoughtfully tailored to your unique experiences, needs, and goals.

I bring a compassionate, real-world understanding to therapy. My experience includes supporting individuals living with severe and persistent mental health challenges, veterans, people affected by addiction, and those navigating many other mental health concerns. I create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can feel seen and understood. Using CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and person-centered care, I tailor treatment to your needs and goals while helping you build resilience, gain insight, and move toward meaningful change.

I am Stanley Okeyemi, the founder of Brighter Light Behavioral Health Services. I am currently licensed as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) in Texas, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Washington, North Carolina, Nebraska, Virginia and New York. I have been working in the mental health industry for 16 years, but licensed as a PMHNP for four years, with a vast amount of experience and affiliations with over 40 hospitals/clinics combined across the USA

I work with adults who feel overwhelmed, caught in patterns they don’t fully understand, or affected by experiences from their past. I have multiple years of experience in nationally recognized substance-use and co-occurring treatment centers and particular experience with trauma, recovery, anxiety, and major life changes. I’m a trauma-informed, EMDR-trained therapist.
