When people aren't sleeping well, almost everything else becomes harder to manage.

Stress feels heavier. Emotions feel bigger. Relationships become more challenging. Even the coping skills that normally work can start to fall apart.

I'm Dr. Emanuel Sánchez-Santiago, a bilingual Clinical Psychologist providing therapy in both English and Spanish. I specialize in helping adults navigate insomnia and sleep difficulties, trauma, PTSD, mood disorders, grief, major life transitions, and the emotional impact of chronic stress. I also have extensive experience supporting veterans, LGBTQIA+ individuals, survivors of domestic violence and sexual trauma, and people adjusting to significant changes in health, identity, or relationships.

Many of my clients come to therapy feeling exhausted—physically, emotionally, or both. Together, we work to understand what's keeping them stuck and build a path toward greater stability, resilience, and well-being.

I've long been drawn to the dance between the psychological and the spiritual. As I journeyed my own early path of discovery, it lead me to studies in psychology, classic literature, and theology in undergraduate, and then later Buddhist psychotherapy and meditation, and depth psychology in graduate school. I received my graduate degree from Naropa University's Transpersonal Counseling Psychology program in 2003, and am licensed in WI (LPC) and MN (LPCC). I am a practitioner of shamatha-vipassyana meditation, and have a well-established background of working for various therapy group practices in MN and WI.

Education

2003, Naropa University, MA in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology.

1998, College of St. Benedict, BA in Psychology; 1997 study abroad in Beibei, China.

As a lifelong student of East and West methodologies, I blend Person-Centered, CBT, Gestalt, depth psychology, somatic, and Buddhist psychology views. I also take a trauma-informed, IFS-informed, EFT-informed approach. I spent many years exploring Christian mysticism and theology before finding my own path and practice in Tibetan Buddhism for the past 20+ years, and I welcome heartfelt conversations about any psycho-spiritual path.

I help adults navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and life transitions so they can feel more confident, balanced, and connected to themselves. I also enjoy supporting individuals navigating cultural, identity, and multicultural concerns who want a space where they feel seen and understood. If you've been feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or carrying more than you can manage on your own, therapy can help you gain clarity, build healthy coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change.

I believe each person already has strengths, resilience, and the capacity for change. My role isn't to tell you who to be, but to work alongside you as we build on the tools you already have, develop new skills, and navigate life's challenges together. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel empowered to grow and move toward the life you want.

I graduated from UW-Stout in 2020 and had a crash course of therapy during the pandemic. This has allowed me to become a more empatheic and passionate therapist who works hard to support clients through all of life's changes. I specialize in couples and relational work, but also work with indiviudals who are looking to navigate grief, anxiety, life changes, and stress. Find the right counselor for your family

Headway makes it easier to find family-focused support — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Family Therapist in Madison, WI

Finding family therapists in Madison starts with understanding what your family wants to work on together. Family therapy may support concerns like parenting conflict, adolescent struggles, blended family dynamics, and communication across generations. Family therapists are trained to work with the relational system, not just one individual. As you compare options, look for therapists whose bios mention family systems, parent-child relationships, adolescent care, or experience with concerns that match your family’s needs.

Madison offers a balanced mix of local and virtual therapy options, so practical fit matters as much as specialty fit. Some families prefer meeting in person, while others use virtual appointments to make scheduling across school, work, and caregiving responsibilities easier. Session attendance may include the full family, smaller groups, or individual family members, depending on the goals of care. Before booking, review therapist profiles for availability, session structure, approach, and whether a free phone consultation is offered.

Therapy in Madison can be a significant investment without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs. Headway helps you find therapists who accept a wide range of insurance plans, verify your benefits, and show your estimated out-of-pocket cost before you book. You can browse family therapists in Madison, review bios, and book directly when you’re ready.

If anyone in your family is experiencing or worried about abuse, threats, or coercion, joint family or couples therapy usually isn't the right starting point — individual support is safer. The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline (1-800-422-4453) and National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788\) can help you think through next steps.
