As a holistic dual board certified mental health and family nurse practitioner, I believe prioritizing mental health is key to happiness and stability in life. Seeking help can be one of the hardest parts, so congratulations on taking that step!
As a board certified psychotherapist, I believe prioritizing mental health is key to happiness and stability in life. Seeking help can be one of the hardest parts, so congratulations on taking that step! I’ve been practicing for 10 years, I work with a plethora of inter-generational clients aged 21-90 who are struggling with anxiety and depression and trauma.
As a chaplain, I take a psycho-spiritual approach and work with clients assisting with intercultural issues, blended family dynamics, religiosity challenges and grief & loss.
I'm Dr. Kara Hokes, a licensed clinical psychologist who offers telehealth therapy to adolescents and adults in Washington state. I have many years of training and experience focusing on trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, and emotion dysregulation. In the past, I have worked extensively with first responders and military affiliated individuals.
I am a well-seasoned counselor with decades of experience.
I am a dual-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner with a clinical background that spans psychiatry, addiction medicine, primary care, detoxification and recovery services, chronic pain management, and complex medical care. That range of experience has shaped the way I practice today: mental health concerns are rarely viewed in isolation, because emotional well-being, physical health, sleep, stress, relationships, medications, past experiences, and everyday life often influence one another.
I provide individualized psychiatric care for adults experiencing ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, trauma-related concerns, substance use disorders, sleep difficulties, mood changes, and other behavioral health concerns. Care may include comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, medication management, psychotherapy, or a combination of approaches based on your symptoms, history, preferences, and treatment goals.
My background includes years of caring for patients with overlapping psychiatric, medical, and substance-related conditions in outpatient, telehealth, detox, and residential treatment settings. I have experience managing psychotropic medications, providing medication-assisted treatment for substance use disorders, evaluating safety and psychiatric risk, supporting patients through withdrawal and recovery, and collaborating with therapists, physicians, case managers, and other members of the treatment team when coordinated care is needed.
Before focusing more extensively on behavioral health, I spent years in chronic pain care, where I evaluated complex medical histories, reviewed diagnostic testing, managed chronic conditions, and worked closely with specialists and primary care teams. That experience continues to inform my psychiatric practice.
I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) licensed in Colorado and Texas, and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington, with years of experience supporting individuals through life's challenges. I'm based in Fort Collins, CO and work with clients virtually — so you can connect with me from wherever you feel most at ease. I accept several major insurance plans and am currently welcoming new clients.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Doctorate in Social Work, and I bring both clinical expertise and real life understanding into the therapy space. My professional background includes years of direct clinical practice as well as leadership roles in complex, high stress systems, including serving as a Mental Health Director. These experiences have shaped my ability to support individuals who are navigating pressure, responsibility, and emotional overwhelm while still being expected to function at a high level.
I work best with clients who are strong on the outside but struggling internally. Many of the people I support are women, mothers, professionals, caregivers, and helpers who are used to showing up for others while neglecting their own emotional needs. I have a particular passion for working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, imposter syndrome, burnout, life transitions, relationship stress, identity concerns, and trauma related to past or ongoing stressors.
Therapy with me is not about having all the answers. It is about learning how to trust yourself, set healthy boundaries, and show up for your life with more compassion and confidence.
Over the past two years, I have worked in community mental health serving individuals from all walks of life who have experienced a wide range of mental health concerns.
Prior to this role, I worked at an inpatient psychiatric facility and gained experience working as an advocacy counselor at a domestic violence/sexual assault nonprofit organization. Through these experiences, I learned to approach all my clients with care regardless of past experiences and personal values. My specialization includes working with people of color, addressing anxiety and depression, and navigating life changes.
I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor ( LMHC) who provides warm, supportive space for individuals seeking growth and healing. I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and relationship concerns, using evidence based approaches tailored to each client. My goal is to help clients feel understood, empowered, and confident as they work toward meaningful change.
