Sheena Rymer, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), received a Master's Degree in Social Work from Valdosta State University in May 2014 and a clinical license in Social Work in September 2019. She facilitated groups; provided care consultations and coordinated services for clients both admitted and discharged from the nursing home; and provided individual counseling services. Moreover, Sheena has over five years experience in crisis intervention. Sheena is an active member of School Social Work Association of America (SSWAA), Fannin Children's Fund (FCF), and Social Workers Action Group (SWAG).
My mother taught me and my brothers from a very young age not to ever hate anyone. Her words have been invaluable to me. My father instilled in us boys a mantra that too has served me well. He said to us innumerable times "Listen." Neither of my parents were strict disciplinarians, and they never used corporal punishment. But, from boyhood, through adolescence and into young adulthood, my brothers and I could count on a well-deserved lecture and extra chores if either of my parents ever caught us breaking one of these rules. My parents' philosophy helped steer me into my life's work, and I employ their beliefs daily in my career as a therapist. I believe people seek counseling so they can be accepted, validated and heard. I committed to myself long ago to never hate and to always listen to my patients/clients/consumers, regardless of their behaviors.Validation, empowerment and dignity are what I strive to create, cultivate and reap in every therapeutic alliance into which I enter.
FIT MIND counseling services enjoys empowering clients finding a more meaningful way to live their lives and assisting them learning about the importance of self-love. When they learn to embrace and unconditionally love for being themselves, they become stronger in the face of negativity and more able to hold onto positive thoughts when faced with challenges.
I am a native of Coastal Georgia. He attended St. Leo University, where I obtained my undergraduate degree in Human Resources. I went on to obtain two Master’s degrees: one in Public Administration, from Columbus State University and the other in Clinical Counseling, from South University.
Finding a therapist who truly gets your life can feel like a long search. One who sees more than a diagnosis, who doesn't need you to explain yourself before you can get to work. If you're part of the LGBTQ+ community, that search often comes with an extra layer: the quiet work of figuring out whether this therapist is actually safe, or whether you'll spend your sessions educating them. With me, you won't have to do that work.
I'm a licensed therapist with more than 22 years of experience in mental health and addiction treatment. I've worked in community mental health centers, psychiatric hospitals, correctional settings, and private practice. I've sat with people in some of the hardest moments of their lives and know how to meet them there without flinching.
My primary focus is LGBTQ+ individuals and couples. That includes navigating identity, coming out at any stage of life, relationship dynamics unique to queer and same-sex partnerships, internalized stigma, minority stress, and everything that comes with living authentically in a world that doesn't always make that easy. I also work with anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, substance use and dual diagnosis, men's issues, and stress and burnout.
