Hi, I'm Dr. Clay Connelly, but please just call me "Clay." I'm a licensed professional counselor with over 15 years of experience working with teens and adults facing anxiety, depression, anger, stress, relationship challenges, life transitions, and other emotional concerns. Clients often describe me as approachable, down-to-earth, and easy to talk to. My goal is to create an environment where you feel comfortable being yourself while also helping you make meaningful progress toward your goals.
I believe therapy should be both supportive and practical. In our work together, we'll focus not only on understanding what you're experiencing but also on developing skills and strategies you can use in everyday life. Whether you're seeking short-term support or longer-term personal growth, I strive to provide a respectful, collaborative, and nonjudgmental therapeutic experience.
You don’t have to shrink, mask, or perform to work with me. I work primarily with LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent adults who may look like they’re holding it all together while feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or exhausted underneath.
As a queer and neurodivergent therapist myself, I bring both professional training and lived experience to my work. I’m warm and affirming, but I’m also direct—I won’t just tell you what you want to hear. I’ll help you understand yourself, recognize patterns, and make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface.
Therapy with me is about more than feeling heard. It’s about understanding yourself well enough to make different choices, build self-trust, and feel less like you’re constantly trying to survive your own life.
I am a dual board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with over 15 years of healthcare experience caring for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. I earned my BSN from Nova Southeastern University, MSN-FNP from the University of South Alabama, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Florida, and Post-Master's PMHNP certificate from Wilkes University.
My background includes intensive care, family medicine, urgent care, oncology, thoracic surgery, correctional healthcare, and outpatient psychiatry. This diverse experience allows me to understand the connection between physical and mental health while providing compassionate, evidence-based care.
I specialize in evaluating and treating anxiety, depression, panic disorder, PTSD and trauma, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, insomnia, stress and burnout, adjustment disorders, grief, relationship concerns, self-esteem issues, women's mental health, postpartum depression and anxiety, and life transitions. I also work with individuals experiencing emotional dysregulation, caregiver stress, and co-occurring mental health conditions.
My approach is collaborative, holistic, and individualized. I combine medication management with evidence-based therapy techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), supportive therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, psychoeducation, and strengths-based interventions. I believe every person deserves to feel heard, respected, and empowered throughout their journey.
I strive to create a safe, supportive, and judgment-free environment where you can openly discuss your concerns and work toward meaningful, lasting change.

Hi! Thanks so much for visiting. I am a board-certified psychiatrist who has been in practice since 2012, and before that I practiced internal medicine. I treat individuals age 10 and up in an adult setting. I went to Duke University for pre-med (BS psychology) and then Emory University School of Medicine. I did my internal medicine residency at Emory also, was on staff at Emory, and was also in private practice before I went back to my psychiatry residency (State University at Stony Brook, Chief Resident, 2012).
I bring the dual training and years of experience treating the breadth and depth of psychiatry. I enjoy helping those who have had treatment-resistant conditions, and have a friendly, kind, and collaborative approach.
I treat anyone and EVERYONE who is motivated to get better. I manage the entire spectrum of conditions, and manage tough-to-fix things like OCD and bipolar depression. Because of my personal and family background, I deeply understand the rainbow/gender-divergent and neuro-divergent folks, and folks with anxiety and ADHD. :). We can absolutely discuss gender-affirming care in California, and in Georgia and Florida, within the scope of local laws. I am a strong believer that trans care saves lives,
Please note:
-Self-pay rates are $460 for intakes and $230 for follow up appointments (half-hour).

I understand the difficulty in reaching out for help, and will do my best to offer the support that is needed. I try to conduct myself with honesty and care, and believe my clients recognize that.
“Have you been carrying a lot, but haven’t had a place to truly unpack it?” I offer a client-centered, collaborative approach to therapy, creating a supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and respected. Sessions move at your pace, with a focus on understanding the root of what you’re experiencing—not just managing symptoms. My work includes supporting adults from all walks of life, including veterans, LGBTQ+ individuals, men and women, human trafficking victims, domestic violence victims, high-acuity clients, and those receiving care at different levels of intensity. My goal is to help clients gain insight, build effective coping skills, and move forward with greater confidence and resilience.
As both a therapist and an athlete, I understand the pressure to perform, navigate change, and find balance while managing the many demands of life. I work with young adults and adults who are looking to improve their relationships, gain clarity, and create meaningful, lasting change.
