Hi, I’m Shakira, a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with individuals and romantic partners dealing with anxiety, relationship struggles, and the impact of past trauma. I use practical tools mixed with deeper healing approaches to help you feel more at ease and confident in yourself. Therapy with me is about having a safe space where you don’t have to carry it all alone.
Sometimes moving forward feels impossible when so much from the past is still weighing on you. Anxiety may keep your mind on high alert, depression can make it difficult to feel hopeful or connected, and grief or trauma may leave you carrying emotions that are difficult to explain to the people around you. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and seniors experiencing anxiety, depression, stress management, grief or loss, and PTSD. These struggles can also overlap with ADHD, bipolar disorder, panic, relationship or family concerns, LGBTQIA+ and transgender experiences, identity concerns, or other effects of trauma. You may be trying to understand yourself, regain a sense of safety, or simply feel more like yourself again. Therapy can give you a supportive place to make sense of what you have been through while building confidence in where you are going next.
I have spent over 40 years teaching, training, and developing mental health programs for individuals from 4 to 84 find hope once again. I am a life-long learner and add at least one certificate a year to ensure clients are given multiple approaches to what they encounter. I am very honest and direct, but also understand the need for pause and reflection. You know the level of your pain and suffering. My job is to meet you where you are and lead you to the place you want to go.
Taking the first step toward better mental health isn't always easy, but you don't have to do it alone. Whether you're feeling anxious, overwhelmed, depressed, or stuck, I'm here to provide a safe, supportive space where you can feel heard and understood.
As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), I work with you to create a personalized treatment plan that fits your unique needs and goals.
Welcome! I'm Dr. Ben Osevwe, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with more than 22 years of experience in mental health care, including over 4.5 years as a PMHNP. I founded Solid Foundation Psychiatry with one mission in mind: to provide compassionate, evidence-based, and personalized psychiatric care that empowers individuals to live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
I work with adolescents and adults ages 12 through 90, providing comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and supportive psychotherapy. I believe that effective mental health treatment goes beyond prescribing medication. Every visit is an opportunity to listen, educate, collaborate, and develop a treatment plan that reflects your unique goals, values, and life circumstances.
My clinical interests include ADHD, depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, trauma and PTSD, autism spectrum disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), insomnia, mood disorders, and other psychiatric conditions. Whether you're seeking help for the first time or have struggled with symptoms for years, I strive to create a safe, respectful, and judgment-free environment where you feel comfortable sharing your concerns.
I provide both in-person psychiatric care in Pearland, Texas, serving the greater Houston area, and telepsychiatry to patients in states where I am licensed.
My philosophy is simple: Every person deserves to be heard, treated with dignity, and given the tools to thrive. I believe healing begins with a trusting relationship, open communication, and a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.
It is a privilege to be part of your mental health journey, and I look forward to partnering with you to help you build resilience, restore hope, and achieve lasting emotional wellness.
You’ve done the work. You’ve read the books, listened to the podcasts, gone to talk therapy before — and somehow you still feel overwhelmed, STUCK or rudderless.
And, you may be SUCCESSFUL, high-functioning on the outside while struggling with holding everything together for everyone else inside ; or even feeling imposter syndrome.
Maybe it's stress and emotional exhaustion, trapped in unexplained patterns, or carrying trauma that still lives in your body no matter how much therapy you've done. Is passing the final exam talking it's toll?
Good news, I specialize in helping people who are tired of just talking about their pain. Whether you are navigating a painful divorce, or carrying deep childhood abuse, or paralyzed by an upcoming licensing exam, I provide a space to finally address and let's CHANGE the cycle.
My Focus is Anxiety: Licensing Exam/test, ADHD, divorce anxiety/trauma, Bipolar I/II, substance disorders, PTSD, trauma, chronic pain and health, nightmares, phobias, childhood sexual/physical abuse, sexual trauma & self identity.
I have EMDR certification work completed because I'm passionate about this work. The work you do today can impact not only your future, but the generations that come after you. We don’t just talk about trauma — we process it at the nervous system level so your brain and body can begin to heal. For EXAM anxiety, we dive quickly into EMDR to process.
I am a licensed psychologist with over fifteen years of experience providing therapy in both Spanish and English. I earned my master’s degree in counseling psychology from Indiana University and my doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. My doctoral program emphasized multicultural competence and using research to inform practice. Therefore, I use an evidence-based, cultural and trauma-informed approach in therapy. I have worked with Veterans, women and men diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, women diagnosed with breast cancer, and individuals experiencing substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and relationship difficulties. I am licensed in the states of Texas and Iowa.
