I work with clients presenting with a variety of concerns, but work primarily with family history and attachment patterns showing up in the present. Many of my clients come in for current stressors, and find they also need help with developmental trauma.
Clients are welcome to book the first available consultation time on my calendar. I will reach out upon booking to confirm our time, and will offer something sooner if it is available.
I have a variety of experience providing individual, family, and couples therapy to a range of clients from young children to adults. Having worked in environments including the school system, outpatient facilities and private practice, I have a solid understanding of how to collaborate with clients to identify their needs and provide appropriate support or connect to the right community resources. Throughout my career, I have gained experience with navigating conflict resolution, addressing general DSM-5 diagnosis’, and helping clients increase emotional regulation and distress tolerance.
You've been called too much, or not enough. Maybe both, depending on the room. I work with individuals and couples in affirming, culturally responsive therapy. POC, LGBTQIA+ folks, people in ENM and nontraditional relationships, and anyone who's spent a lifetime translating themselves to be understood. Clients come in carrying grief, people-pleasing patterns, identity questions, the weight of being misread, or a relationship that's drifted, gone quiet, or is trying to find a new shape that actually fits. I'll challenge you and stay warm doing it. I don't ask you to shrink or perform to be met. This is a space to be known in full.
I strive to provide a space that welcomes vulnerability and growth. I will collaborate with you to increase self-awareness, communication, and understanding of both you and the world around you. My goal is to help you connect with all parts of yourself and find ways to navigate through life with ease. I have experience in working with LGBT+ populations and their families. My professional experience includes working in higher levels of care such as partial and inpatient hospitals.
I am a licensed psychologist with over fifteen years of experience providing therapy in both Spanish and English. I earned my master’s degree in counseling psychology from Indiana University and my doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. My doctoral program emphasized multicultural competence and using research to inform practice. Therefore, I use an evidence-based, cultural and trauma-informed approach in therapy. I have worked with Veterans, women and men diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, women diagnosed with breast cancer, and individuals experiencing substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and relationship difficulties. I am licensed in the states of Texas and Iowa.
Relationships can change over time—but feeling disconnected doesn't have to be the end of the story.
I work with adults who want to better understand themselves and create healthier, more connected relationships. I have a particular interest in supporting people in long-term relationships who are navigating communication challenges, recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, changes in intimacy, or the feeling that they’ve become more like roommates than partners.
Therapy can be a space to slow down and understand what is happening beneath the surface. Together, we'll explore self-worth, communication, emotional and physical intimacy, boundaries, conflict patterns, emotional regulation, and coping skills. We’ll also look at how past experiences and beliefs about yourself may influence the way you communicate, connect, set boundaries, or respond when you feel hurt or misunderstood.
My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and practical. I integrate CBT, mindfulness, acceptance-based approaches, and trauma-informed therapy to help you develop greater self-awareness and the tools to create meaningful change.
You don't have to wait until your relationship is falling apart to seek support. Therapy can help you reconnect—with yourself, with your partner, and with the kind of relationship you want to create.
Are you struggling with feelings of sadness, inadequacy, or lack of peace? Are you having difficulty coping with life stressors or just day to day circumstances?
Seeking help can be the first step to acquire greater understanding and insight into our lives and relationships.
