I’m Ashley Walay, LICSW, and I work with BIPOC women and LGBTQ+ individuals, professionals, single parents, and military-connected individuals (including spouses, veterans, contractors, and civilian employees) experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, chronic stress, and life transitions.
I value clear, direct communication and tailor therapy to your needs, whether you want tools or space to process. Together, we’ll work toward greater clarity, balance, and confidence.
For the past 8 years, I’ve worked closely with elderly and disabled individuals, supporting them through life’s emotional and practical challenges. Before becoming a social worker, I worked in banking, but I felt a strong pull toward work that allowed me to truly make a difference in people’s lives. That calling led me to counseling. I bring compassion, patience, and a deep respect for each person’s story into the work we do together.
As a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), I am passionate about helping people move beyond simply surviving and begin thriving! I believe therapy should be a space where you feel seen, supported, challenged, empowered to create meaningful change in your life, and did I say feel seen?! :-)

Factors to Consider When Choosing an LGBTQIA+ Therapist in Huntsville, AL
Finding LGBTQIA+ therapists in Huntsville starts with identity-affirming care. The right therapist may have experience with LGBTQIA+ concerns, identity exploration, gender identity, relationship stress, anxiety, depression, or trauma. As you compare options, look for therapists who list affirmative therapy, WPATH training, gender-diverse experience, or LGBTQIA+-affirming care in their profile. These details can help you find someone whose training and listed specialties match what you want from care.
Huntsville has a steady mental health care community, but affirming therapists may be more limited than in larger metro areas. Virtual appointments can expand your options while still connecting you with therapists licensed in Alabama. You may want to compare appointment availability, whether a therapist is accepting new clients, and whether they offer a free phone consultation. Read each bio for clear mentions of LGBTQIA+ populations, communication style, and approach to care before you book.
Therapy in Huntsville can be expensive without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs. Headway helps you find LGBTQIA+-affirming therapists who accept a wide range of insurance plans, show estimated out-of-pocket costs before booking, and offer direct scheduling. You can browse therapists, review bios, and book when you’re ready.
