I received my Master of Social Work (MSW) from The Ohio State University. I have been working in mental health for 12 years and been a therapist for 9 years. I have worked mostly in the LGBTQIA+ community during that time, but have also often worked with all kinds of folks in some capacity. I have worked in community mental health, youth development and prevention, college counseling, and most recently in an intensive outpatient program.
I am a nonbinary (though male presenting), queer, neurodivergent white person in a fat, tall body from Appalachian hill people with generational poverty. I’m a first-generation undergraduate and master’s graduate, but also recognize that moving through those institutions afforded me quite a lot of privilege which I take seriously.
I believe everyone deserves to feel healthy, balanced, and fulfilled. I provide a supportive, confidential space for individuals and couples to explore their mental and emotional well-being.
As a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), I offer a holistic approach to care—integrating therapy with medication management when appropriate to support the whole person.
With over 11 years of healthcare experience across a variety of settings, I bring both clinical expertise and a compassionate, patient-centered approach to treatment. Recognizing the growing need for mental health support, I pursued advanced training in psychiatric care to better serve individuals navigating stress, anxiety, mood concerns, and life transitions.
My goal is to help you feel heard, supported, and empowered as you work toward meaningful, lasting change.
Feeling comfortable in our shoes is essential to a creative and self-fulfilling journey and
life. The struggle to reach out for support can be an obstacle that leads to isolation,
loneliness, anxiety, and depression and is often the first and most challenging step to
take. I congratulate you on your courage and willingness to imagine and hope for
changes that will help you be more comfortable in the shoes that you wear!
I have worked as a mental health practitioner for over 40 years and have encountered
many of the challenges that people face in their daily lives. Along the way, I have
discovered my own creative needs and now walk as a transgender therapist willing to
join you as a partner on a path to self-discovery. Giving voice to our hopes, dreams,
and desires is often an essential part of that journey, and I would be glad to join you as
a partner in your self-discovery and growth.
I believe healing happens in connection — when you feel safe, understood, and empowered to grow.
My practice is inclusive and affirming of all cultural, religious, sexual, LGBTQIA+, and neurodiverse identities, providing a safe, nonjudgmental space where healing/growth can flourish.
I am a level 2 trained trauma trained professional who specializes in treating individuals (10+) couples and families.
Above all, my goal is to create a space where you feel safe, accepted, and empowered to heal — a space where you can explore who you are and what you need, at your own pace and in your own way.
Hello and welcome! I'm a psychologist who has had my practice for almost 15 years. I have previously worked in hospitals, universities, and nursing facilities, but I have found working in private practice is my strength and also my passion. I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Hofstra University in 2009, and I moved from NYC to Ohio in 2020. So I get to see patients both in New York and Ohio.
Counseling for me is about companionship! Companions are with you through the good and the not-so-good. The most important thing in counseling is creating a relationship where people can feel and think how they want to about their experience within the relationship because whether we are stepping in the right or wrong direction we are ever growing and changing. Everyone perceives life through a different lens. Biological, physiological, and environmental variables influence those perspectives in different domains of people’s lives. All ages with: Anxiety, Depression, Addictions, Schizo and Mood Spectrum, Paraphallic, and Trauma.
I approach to counseling and therapy is that we're all striving to connect with our whole or "essence" self that resides within us. I see myself as a facilitator of that change. I am a holistic and trauma-informed therapist with some twenty-five years' experience.
I’m Dr. Michelle S. McBride, DNP, PMHNP-BC, MBA, a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive mental health care. I earned my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Rush University in Chicago, IL. Before obtaining my doctorate, I was a board-certified psychiatric registered nurse, gaining extensive experience across various clinical settings, including inpatient psychiatry, psychiatric emergency services, community behavioral health, and forensic psychiatry (jail-based care).
I am experienced, confident in treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including:
- Schizophrenia & Schizoaffective Disorder
- Eating Disorders
- Psychosis
- Major Depressive Disorder
- Personality Disorders
- ADHD
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- PTSD
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
- Bipolar Disorders
- Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD)
- Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED)
With 20 years of experience, I have moved past clinical jargon to focus on what actually works: true empathy and genuine human connection. My practice is built on real-world experience, and I am dedicated to helping people navigate life with clarity and strength.
I specialize in working with adults dealing with trauma, relationship dynamics, substance use, anxiety, and depression. I also focus on women’s issues, professional burnout, navigating major life transitions, and the art of setting healthy boundaries. I provide a professional, evidence-based approach that remains focused on you as a person.
I’m Kendra Compton, a dedicated social worker with over 30 years of experience empowering individuals and families to thrive. My journey began with a heartfelt desire to make a positive impact in the lives of children and adults alike. Over the decades, I’ve honed my skills as a relationship-oriented therapist who truly believes in the healing power of genuine human connection. I blend evidence-based therapeutic techniques with a warm, compassionate style. My approach is always:
- Person-Centered – I meet each client where they are, honoring their unique strengths and experiences.
- Relationship-Focused – I believe trust and rapport lay the groundwork for meaningful change.
- Strengths-Based – I highlight what’s working well and build upon those successes.
Helping others bring me endless inspiration. Their courage, curiosity, and capacity for joy remind me daily why I chose this path. I grew up in a family of athletes and am an avid sports fan—whether participating, cheering from the sidelines (mostly my son) or watching a game on TV, I see sports as a powerful metaphor for teamwork, perseverance and personal growth. These values naturally weave into my therapeutic style, encouraging clients to set goals, lean on their support systems, and celebrate every milestone.
If you’re looking for a therapist who listens deeply, cares wholeheartedly, and partners with you every step of the way, you’ve come to the right place. My mission is to help you and your family write the next chapter of your story—one defined by resilience, hope, and stronger connections.
Feel free to reach out, and let’s start this journey toward healing and growth together.
