Hello! I have been a clinical social worker for over 15 years. For a number of those years, I worked at Walter Reed National Military Medical center where I specialized in a wide range of mental health issues, including Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Grief and Loss, Sleep Problems, Relationship problems, and Work Stressors.
I specialize in medication management in treating mood, anxiety, psychotic, and substance use disorders. In the past, I worked as an RN in a dual diagnosis inpatient psychiatric unit. Recently, I have working in an outpatient private practice.
I believe that optimal mental health is achieved through an ongoing, multi-pronged approach. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner I am well trained in the art and science of prescribing medications to improve mental health symptoms. I also encourage adjunctive treatment modalities such as CBT. Empowering patients to care for themselves is part of my goal. I embrace opportunities to help my patients gain greater personal insight, because when you can see yourself, you can change yourself.
I am a board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with a primary care background. I graduated from the University of Maryland School of Nursing. My focus areas are adults and geriatric patients.
Ashley Bedeau, LCPC, is a Licensed Clinical Counselor. As an African American-Trinidadian, I offer a unique perspective in my practice. With a background in trauma care, dual-diagnosis treatment, and first responder wellness, I employ a person-centered, trauma-informed approach to promote resilience and healing. My goal is to help you navigate life's challenges with empathy and confidence.
Welcome—I'm glad you're here.
Acknowledging that you need help is a courageous first step, and finding the right space to share your struggles can feel overwhelming. I’m here to make that process a little easier.
I’m a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with over 15 years of experience in the mental health field. My approach is rooted in warmth, compassion, and respect. I work with individuals who are navigating a wide range of challenges, whether they stem from the past or are part of everyday life.
My areas of specialty include anxiety, depression, and addiction. Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of where to start, my goal is to provide a safe, supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts and emotions, build resilience, and begin to heal.
You don’t have to face it alone. I’m here to support you every step of the way.
I'm a psychologist who doesn't believe in therapy that spins its wheels. I've worked with adults for over two decades — through addiction, grief, anxiety, trauma, and the complicated stuff that doesn't have a clean label. I'm direct, I don't dance around things, and I use humor when it helps move things forward. Most of my clients come in having already tried something else. My job is to figure out why that didn't stick and do something different. I work in Baltimore in person and virtually across Maryland and Psypact-authorized states.
I work with people who are living with depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizo-affective disorder, adjustment disorder or are going through difficulties and need assistance moving towards a better way of life. I enjoy working with people to manage symptoms, stress and the everyday challenges of dealing with a mental health issue.
In my spare time I enjoy art, creativity, music, dance, acting and writing. I work with crystals, candles, oracle cards, but am also grounded in science. I do a lot of mindfulness.
I am a member of the MAMCD, the Maryland Association of Multicultural Counseling and Development as well as MASERVIC, the Maryland Association of Spiritual, Ethical, Religious Values in Counseling.
I believe that there is a common thread across all therapy approaches, which is why I draw from various methods during our sessions. I was born in Brazil and my education was shaped in the U.S. I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland College Park, where I completed about 160 credits, and later graduated with a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Maryland Baltimore. I’m a licensed practitioner, authorized to provide psychotherapy in the state of Maryland. One concept that stayed with me from my studies is Dr. Daniel Siegel’s idea of the mind, body, and brain being interconnected. Over the past 10 years of practice, my approach has evolved, and I now specialize in Internal Family Systems (IFS). This approach teaches that instead of having just one persona, we all have multiple parts of ourselves, none of which are “bad.” When we work together, you’ll quickly learn that every part of you deserves care and understanding.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Mental Health Therapist in Bowie, MD
Searching for therapists in Bowie starts with finding someone whose experience matches what you want support with. Therapists may focus on concerns like anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief, trauma, life transitions, or work stress. As you compare options for therapy in Bowie, MD, look for specialties, approaches, and training that fit your needs. A therapist’s profile can help you see whether they use approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, or acceptance and commitment therapy.
Bowie is a smaller city, so nearby in-person availability may vary by schedule, office location, and specialty. Virtual therapy can expand your options while still connecting you with a therapist licensed in Maryland. Some people prefer meeting in an office, while others choose virtual sessions for easier scheduling around work, school, caregiving, or commute time. When comparing Bowie counselors, check whether they are accepting new patients, offer appointment times that fit your calendar, and provide a free phone consultation. Reading bios before booking can help you understand each therapist’s communication style, session structure, and experience with the concerns you want to address.
Therapy in Bowie can be a significant investment without insurance. Using in-network insurance is one of the most reliable ways to reduce session costs and understand your out-of-pocket estimate before you book. Headway helps you find therapists who match your preferences, and you can check each provider’s insurance details, availability for virtual or in-person care, and estimated costs before booking. You can browse therapists, review bios, see estimated costs after adding your insurance, and book directly when you’re ready.
