Personal Statement
Trauma has a way of convincing you that you're stuck, broken, or always waiting for the next bad thing to happen. The good news? None of that has to be your forever. I work with young adults who are tired of just surviving. Whether you're dealing with PTSD, childhood trauma, anxiety, relationship patterns that keep repeating themselves, or emotions that seem to have a mind of their own, we'll figure it out together. My therapy style is anything but robotic. I show up as a real person, and I invite you to do the same. Therapy with me is collaborative, creative, and tailored to who you are.
I bring an open mind and an open heart when working with my clients. I want to help my clients understand that they are not a problem, but the problem is the problem. I respect my clients and work hard to make them feel heard. I work to support my clients in their circumstances and meet them where they are. I have training in EMDR and narrative therapy. I endeavor to provide treatment that is trauma informed. I use CBT skills as well as other interventions.
I have over eight years of experience working with people from diverse backgrounds in a variety of environments. I work with individuals, families, and couples to provide help coping with the stresses of everyday life as well as crisis situations. I have experience working with first responders, Law Enforcement and military individual. If you are paying out of pocket, please ask me about my sliding scale fees. I look forward to meeting you.
Hello, and welcome! I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 17 years of experience helping children, teens, adults, and families navigate life's challenges. Welcome! I’m a therapist who believes therapy should be as unique as you are. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach; instead, I look at the 'big picture.' By bringing together your mind, body, and emotional well-being, we can create a space where you feel truly supported and empowered to grow.
I'm a clinical psychologist residing in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, where I came to start my education in 1998 at Virginia Tech, and where I stayed to complete my graduate training at nearby Radford University. Since then, I've worked in community mental health, college counseling, and private practice, with a brief stint in neuropsychology along the way. I've also been an assistant professor at Radford and at Roanoke College. I think of myself as a generalist (meaning I like to work with a broad range of clients and issues), but have had the most experience with mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, substance use disorders, and LGBTQ+ issues. When not practicing, I devote my time to family, dogs, video games, tabletop RPGs, cooking, and badly writing electronic music.
I am a Master's level independent clinical social worker and have been practicing as a therapist for 8 years. I am certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and work well with individuals who have experienced complex or childhood trauma. I also work with clients who struggle with ADHD, burnout, anxiety or depression. I became a therapist to help others live up to their full potential and get out of autopilot to find genuine contentment in their lives.
