I am a certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-C). I completed my Bachelor of Nursing degree at Chamberlain University in Chicago, Illinois. Further, I pursued a Master of Science in psychiatry at Walden University, which allowed me to obtain certification as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. With extensive clinical experience in psychiatry, I specialize in treating individuals, couples, and families navigating challenges such as depression, ADHD, anxiety, PTSD, and substance use disorders. My background allows me to care for the whole person, addressing the complex connections between physical health, emotional well-being, and life balance.
My name is Rachel, and I am a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I received my associates degree in nursing from Blue Ridge Community College, and I received my bachelors and masters degrees in nursing from James Madison University. I received a post graduate certificate in psych mental health from Shenandoah University, and I am currently enrolled in classes to obtain my doctor of nursing practice degree from James Madison University. I am originally from North Carolina and moved to Virginia 6 years ago. I studied at Wake Forest University. Since I was younger, I've enjoyed helping others and learning about the science of mental health. It became my hobby when I was younger. I enjoy working with so many backgrounds and increasing my education each year as I help new people. Currently, I like to utilize mindfulness based CBT, DBT, and ACT.
I am a board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner for over 5 years, and I am also a board certified adult nurse practitioner for over 12 years. I began my nursing career graduating from university of MD with my bachelors, and then attended Johns Hopkins University for my masters. I decided to further my education by attending Brandman University to obtain my Doctorate and psychiatric mental health certification in 2018.
Personal Statement
Trauma has a way of convincing you that you're stuck, broken, or always waiting for the next bad thing to happen. The good news? None of that has to be your forever. I work with young adults who are tired of just surviving. Whether you're dealing with PTSD, childhood trauma, anxiety, relationship patterns that keep repeating themselves, or emotions that seem to have a mind of their own, we'll figure it out together. My therapy style is anything but robotic. I show up as a real person, and I invite you to do the same. Therapy with me is collaborative, creative, and tailored to who you are.
Hi, I’m Hayley Johnson, MSN, PMHNP-BC. I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 16 years of experience in nursing, including medical, rehabilitation, home health, and behavioral health settings.
I work with adolescents and adults (ages 12+) experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, and stress-related conditions. Many of my clients are high-functioning individuals who feel overwhelmed internally, struggle with focus or emotional regulation, or feel stuck despite trying to manage things on their own.
My background in both medical and psychiatric care allows me to take a comprehensive approach. I consider the full picture, including medical history, lifestyle factors, and when appropriate, possible contributors such as thyroid imbalance, vitamin deficiencies, or hormonal changes.
I am committed to providing thoughtful, structured, and evidence-based psychiatric medication management in a way that feels collaborative and respectful.
I believe the most effective care comes from a strong, collaborative partnership. I approach each person as more than a diagnosis, and I value honesty, accountability, and mutual respect in the work we do together. Change is possible—I’ve seen it firsthand—and I’m here to support you in becoming the version of yourself you want to be. My background includes both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Nursing from Walsh University, and I bring that clinical foundation into thoughtful, individualized care.
