I’m a Doctor of Nursing Practice–trained Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a career shaped by service, compassion, and a genuine love for helping people feel seen, supported, and capable of healing. Before becoming a PMHNP, I spent many years as a CNA and later earned my BSN from the University of the Incarnate Word in 2015 in San Antonio, TX. I worked bedside at University Hospital, transitioned to hospice in 2016, and later served in case management at UTHSCSA. In 2023, I began my DNP–PMHNP program, completing it while working full time at Clarity Child Guidance Center. On December 13th, 2025, I was officially granted the title of “Dr.”, became board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner on February 9th, 2026, and finally obtained my APRN with the Texas Board of Nursing on March 12th, 2026!
My doctoral project focused on reducing seclusion rates for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder using evidence‐based, trauma‐informed interventions—an area close to my heart as a parent of a special‐needs child. I’m passionate about geriatric psychiatry and child & adolescent psychiatry, and I bring a calm, grounded, and collaborative style to treatment.
I also briefly served in the United States Air Force, an experience that strengthened my commitment to resilience, service, and advocacy. Today, I continue to advocate for women affected by domestic violence, helping them reclaim safety, confidence, and possibility.
On a personal note, I’m a mom of two boys, happily married for 11 years, and the proud owner of four dogs. Outside of work, you’ll usually find me drinking coffee, shopping for plants, collecting perfumes, baking, cooking, or spending time with family and friends. These parts of my life help me stay balanced, grounded, and connected—values I bring into every therapeutic relationship.
Welcome! I’m Monique Swan, owner of New Branch Mental Health. I believe mental health care should feel collaborative, compassionate, and personalized. As a dual board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I bring a whole-person perspective to psychiatric care.
I take time to understand your symptoms, experiences, lifestyle, medical history, and goals so we can work together to create a treatment plan that fits your individual needs.
I am a native Texan, auntie, ice cream-loving, roller skating, retired professional athlete who also happens to be a Therapist. My background in the world of mental health dates back 10 years, in my work with families of Autism, Substance abuse and misuse, Student-athletes, Life- transitions, and family therapy. I enjoy introducing people back to themselves as they unpack their past with grace and patience. If you are experiencing racing thoughts, overthinking, or people-pleasing, let our work together find the root cause and, from there, uncover solutions that work for you. I believe that therapy does not have to be "forever," and my role is to safely get you to a place of wholeness within your next quest and journey.
I’m a Houston-based therapist with over ten years of clinical experience supporting children, adolescents, and adults through a wide range of emotional, relational, and behavioral concerns. I believe therapy is most effective when you feel understood, respected, and able to be yourself.
My clinical experience includes intensive outpatient DBT programs, medication-assisted treatment, university counseling, and outpatient and residential treatment for adolescents. I have specialized training in comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), including advanced training in DBT Prolonged Exposure and traumatic invalidation. I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, psychodynamically informed approaches, eating disorder treatment, and family therapy into my work.
I have particular clinical interests in trauma, relationship concerns, grief and loss, family-of-origin difficulties, personality disorders, mood disorders, and substance use. I work with clients who may be navigating significant life transitions, difficult relationships, longstanding emotional patterns, or symptoms that have begun to interfere with their daily lives.
I believe that every person deserves to feel heard, respected, and supported without judgment. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, my goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where you can openly discuss your concerns and work toward meaningful change. I understand that seeking mental health care can feel overwhelming, and I strive to make the process approachable, collaborative, and personalized. I'm committed to partnering with you to help you achieve your goals.
