Some seasons of life are just hard, and you don’t have to go through them alone. As a Licensed Professional Counselor who is passionate about helping people feel supported and understood, I believe everyone deserves to be seen and heard.
I also believe our backstory matters. It often shapes how we think, feel, and relate to others. My role is to help you make sense of those experiences while building the tools you need to overcome insecurities, heal from past trauma, and manage anxiety and stress. Together, we’ll work toward helping you feel more confident, empowered, and in control of your life.
I am a Clinical Social Worker with a graduate degree from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. For the past two decades, I have been advocating for individuals and families struggling with mental health concerns. My work has primarily focused on trauma, and I have provided therapeutic services to a diverse array of individuals of all ages. I am committed to helping people overcome eating disorders, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, trauma, and other stressors that impact our lives.
I listen and we learn to judge the behaviors in relation to your goals and ideal self. I approach our initial sessions with structure to allow for clarifying your goals. Once we have a sense of direction, we suspend judgement, and learn to explore your wants, fears, and desires in life. I bring in a calm and humorous approach to allow for different perspectives to emerge with the intent to find out our strengths and deficits to continue learning and discover yourself
You might look like you're holding it all together on the outside while feeling exhausted, anxious, disconnected, or overwhelmed on the inside. Maybe you've spent so much time taking care of everyone else that you've stopped checking in with yourself. Or maybe life changed unexpectedly, and you're trying to figure out who you are now.
If that sounds familiar, you're not alone.
I work with children, teens, adults, couples, families, veterans, first responders, and LGBTQ+ individuals who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship struggles, major life transitions, and the stress that comes from simply trying to keep up. My goal isn't to tell you how to live your life. It's to help you understand yourself more deeply, quiet the constant mental noise, and feel more confident in the choices you make.
Clients often tell me they appreciate that I'm easy to talk to, calm, honest, and genuine. Therapy with me is a place where you don't have to have it all figured out. You can show up exactly as you are, and we'll take it one step at a time.
I'm a compassionate mental health provider who believes healing is possible for everyone. I specialize in supporting individuals navigating anxiety, chronic illness and pain, and substance use and addiction. My work is rooted in the belief that you are the expert on your own life — and my role is to walk alongside you with evidence-based tools and unwavering support. I bring warmth and authenticity to every session, creating a space where you feel truly seen, heard, and valued. Whatever you're carrying, I'm here to help.
I believe therapy works best when you feel genuinely safe, heard, and understood. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can openly process your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and life experiences without feeling rushed or criticized. I understand that starting therapy can feel vulnerable, so I approach each client with compassion, curiosity, and respect for their unique story and lived experience.
My style is warm, relational, and conversational while still grounded in evidence-based practices. I work collaboratively with clients to help them better understand emotional patterns, increase self-awareness, strengthen communication, and develop practical tools they can use outside of sessions. I value creating a therapeutic relationship that feels authentic and empowering, where clients can feel comfortable being honest, asking questions, and moving at a pace that feels manageable for them.
I work with individuals navigating stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, self-esteem concerns, emotional overwhelm, and patterns that may leave them feeling stuck or disconnected from themselves. Together, we focus on creating meaningful and sustainable change while also making space for reflection, healing, and personal growth.

Hi, I’m Mariam Opafunso, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I have over a decade of experience in the Mental Health field with a substantial history in substance use counseling, working with individuals who were incarcerated. Females with co-occurring disorders in a controlled environment. I moved to working with an exclusive male population, where I assisted them to gain skills to overcome life's difficulties. As I, myself, gained skills and knowledge I moved into working with those within my community seeking services. I helped people seeking individual services as well as leading group counseling sessions which has always been a part of my therapeutic styles.
Working with competency restoration, probation and parolees gave me a guided sense of purpose and a knowledge of the law.
I have also worked with trauma informed care, military and those seeking a better way of life. I have worked with individuals within the TDCJ system. In my journey I have worked with those that deal with unforeseen life challenges, whether through a life choice or an unimaginable circumstance. My focus has always been on helping.
