I earned the MSW from the University of Kansas in 2014. I have since engaged in a range of direct human and mental health service work; including in-home therapy with youth and their families connected to state child protective services; crisis therapy and case management in a short-term crisis stabilization facility; outpatient community mental health therapy including work with individuals, families or couples, and groups.
I'm Melinda Powers, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW) and owner of Parlami LLC, a private psychotherapy practice in Lawrence, Kansas. I hold an MSW from Arizona State University and am licensed in Kansas, Missouri, and Nevada.
My clinical approach is trauma-informed and integrative. I'm trained in EMDR and clinical hypnotherapy and I hold ADHD Clinical Services Provider credentials. I work with individuals, couples, and families ages 15 and up, with particular specialties in trauma recovery, ADHD, and conscious uncoupling for couples navigating separation or divorce.
I believe healing happens through genuine connection, not just technique. Whether you're working through past trauma, navigating attention or focus challenges, or facing the end of a significant relationship, I bring both compassion and directness to our work together. I'll meet you where you are, but I won't let you stay stuck there if real change is possible.
Parlami means "talk to me" in Italian, and that's exactly the invitation I extend to every client: a space to be honest, be heard, and do the real work of moving forward.
I started out working in college sports as a trainer and eventually began consulting with athletes and coaches after graduate school. My career path later took me through 10 years with an ambulance service, 2 years as a community service officer and 4 years as a crisis counselor embedded with a police department. I've also spent a considerable amount of time teaching psychology as a college professor. Because of this rather unique skill set, I have a heart for athletes, rescue workers and students.

I have been a counselor for more than 30 years. I remain passionate about making a difference in the lives of others and believe that genuine caring is an essential element to an effective counseling relationship. Over the years I have worked with clients with significant trauma and loss. I consider it a privilege to stand with another individual as he or she resolves great pain. I specialize in treating clients with trauma, relationship issues, and borderline personality disorder.
As a PMHNP-BC, I offer medication management and therapy sessions via Telehealth Mon-Fri 0900- 19:00.
I’m a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with a background that spans mental health, geriatrics, home health, intensive care, and long-term rehabilitation. My personality is open, honest, and direct—I believe transparency builds trust. With over a decade of hands-on nursing experience and recent advanced training in psychopharmacology and CBT, I bring both empathy and expertise to our work together. I am a down-to-earth, supportive, nonjudgmental, and open-minded Board Certified Psychiatric NP. I began my work in psychiatric care as a registered nurse treating patients in various hospital settings who were experiencing a mental health crisis. For a more rewarding 1-on-1 approach, I returned to grad school and earned a Masters, and chose to become certified as a Psychiatric NP. I am honored and fortunate to have the opportunity to manage medications for kids and adults with ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, Bipolar, Panic, Sleep problems, and other ailments from a place of encouragement and respect and based on an ever growing library of peer reviewed scientific literature and medical treatment guidelines.
I believe in meeting my clients where they're at. They are the expert in their own story. I'm just here to listen, help process, maybe challenge, and encourage them in their journey. I went to Newman University for my Master's Degree and went on to get my Clinical License. I have worked with varying populations including teens, adults, geriatrics, the prison population, couples counseling, and Christian Counseling. I enjoy working with people who have been through trauma or grief or have experienced anxiety or depression.
