Do you feel stuck? Does your mind play the same mental record over and again? Do you know what you "should" do but just can't make yourself do it? Have you tried traditional talk therapy and not gotten the help you needed? I encourage you to try therapies that target the mind-body connection to release yourself from these binds. I offer clients Brain Spotting, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) in addition to traditional talk therapy. These therapies are evidence-based, efficient, and powerfully effective. We are designed to heal but we need help to activate these resources.
As a mental health therapist, I practice in Virginia, New York, Florida, and North Carolina, specializing in grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, anger management, and stress associated with life transitions.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified School Counselor in the State of Florida. I have been working with children, adolescence, families, and adults for 26 years. I specialize in positive psychology, social emotional wellness, families and parenting, addiction, anxiety, stress, and wellness.
You don't have to hit rock bottom to deserve support. Sometimes you know something isn't working, but you're not sure where to start or whether your struggles are "serious enough" for therapy. I work with adults navigating addiction and recovery at all stages, as well as anxiety, trauma, and ADHD. My goal is to create a space where you can be honest about what's happening without judgment and begin figuring out what you want to change.
There is something different about talking to someone who actually understands your world. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, life transitions, and challenges with identity and how they see themselves, and I offer sessions in both English and Haitian Creole. I bring particular care to clients from Haitian and Caribbean backgrounds and to women navigating the emotional weight of motherhood, loss, and everything in between. With more than 15 years of experience, I have seen what becomes possible when people feel genuinely seen and free to show up exactly as they are.
You’ve spent a lifetime caring for everyone else. My job is to help you finally exhale.
I’m Melissa Lou Koerner, LCSW — a therapist with 20+ years of experience helping people navigate the messy, meaningful, and often hilarious business of being human. I’m a generalist at heart, which means you don’t have to fit into a diagnostic box to work with me. If it’s part of your story, it’s welcome in the room.
Over the years I’ve supported adults, couples, families, caregivers, Veterans, adoptive families, and folks moving through grief, trauma, identity shifts, and major life transitions. From school hallways to hospice rooms to VA clinics to private practice, I’ve learned one thing over and over: people are far more resilient than they realize.
My style is warm, grounded, and practical. I blend trauma‐informed care, attachment work, and evidence‐based approaches with a healthy dose of humor — because sometimes the only way through a hard moment is to laugh at how absurd life can be.
And while I’m a true generalist, I’ll admit my favorite work these days is helping adults untangle enmeshment, estrangement, and parentification. There’s something powerful about watching people reclaim space in their own lives after years of carrying roles that were never theirs to begin with.
If you’re looking for a therapist who can help you untangle what’s heavy, honor what’s hopeful, and
While every person's journey is unique, many clients report feeling more hopeful, confident, and emotionally grounded as they begin the therapeutic process. Seeking therapy can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to navigate life's challenges alone. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, understood, and never judged.
For more than a decade, I've worked with children, teens, adults, couples, and families experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and everyday stress. I believe that the foundation of successful therapy is a genuine, trusting relationship. I take the time to get to know you, meet you where you are, and tailor treatment to your unique needs and goals.
Clients often describe me as warm, compassionate, and easy to talk to. They appreciate that I balance listening and validation with practical tools they can begin using in their daily lives. Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply ready for change, we'll work together at a pace that feels right for you. My hope is that you'll leave each session feeling heard, supported, and equipped with strategies to help you move forward with greater confidence and clarity.
