Hello,
I am Dr. Tameka White, a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with more than a decade of experience caring for adults with complex medical and mental health conditions.
Many of my clients have spent years putting everyone else first before finally seeking help for themselves. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, emotional inheritance, and or caregiver role strain caring for individuals affected by HIV, I strive to provide a space where you feel heard, respected, and never judged.
My background includes critical care and HIV management, allowing me to understand the close relationship between physical health and emotional well-being.
I have a special interest in caring for men's health, professionals, caregivers, and adults from diverse communities, including Black, Caribbean, Asian, and other diaspora communities.
PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING, thank you.
I am a board-certified Psychiatrist (medical doctor) providing virtual care throughout NY and PA. I taper medications. This means most of my patients want to safely reduce or ultimately stop taking psychiatric medications, and I guide them through that process safely and at their own pace. I include therapy in my 30-min follow up sessions, though do not offer weekly 1-hour therapy sessions. Many of my patients also work with a therapist.
My passion is to help others achieve wellness. I am a board certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with over 10 years of experience. I currently work both inpatient and outpatient facilities within New York City. I specialize in the diagnoses and treatment of adults with a range of mental health issues.
I offer comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, individual psychotherapy and medication management for adults. My goal is to explore each of my patient's situations and issues judiciously before arriving at appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan.
My patients often say that I am approachable, personable, and respond quickly to emails/phone calls. I am accepting new patients.
Greetings & welcome. As a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I offer brief therapy & medication management to adolescents & adults. Medication is not the best fit for everyone & together we can find your path.
I hold a certification in Wellness Counseling from Cornell University & believe that diet, activity and spending time doing what nourishes you, all contribute to healing. Together we can explore your goals & treatment options.

Find the right psychiatrist for you
Headway makes it easy to find support for your mental health — from finding the right provider, to understanding costs, to scheduling with ease.
Factors to Consider When Choosing a Psychiatrist in Smithtown, NY
Finding the right psychiatrist in Smithtown starts with understanding the type of care you need. Psychiatrists and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners can diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe medication, and manage medication as part of care. Therapists provide talk therapy and support with concerns like anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, and life transitions. If you are looking for help with anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, or medication management, review each psychiatrist’s listed specialties, training, and care approach to see whether their experience matches your needs.
Smithtown has a smaller local market than nearby New York City, so virtual appointments can help expand your options while keeping care connected to your schedule. Medication management visits are usually shorter and less frequent than therapy sessions, and some psychiatrists also offer therapy. Some people work with both a therapist and a prescriber. As you compare psychiatrists, look at appointment availability, whether they are accepting new patients, visit format, and whether they offer a free phone consultation. Reading bios can help you understand how each psychiatrist explains their approach and what to expect from the first visit.
Psychiatric care in Smithtown can be a significant expense without insurance. Using in-network coverage is one of the most reliable ways to reduce out-of-pocket costs and understand your price before booking. Headway helps you find psychiatrists who match your preferences, accept your plan, and are accepting new patients. You can enter your insurance details, review estimated costs, compare bios, and book directly when you are ready.
If you're already taking psychiatric medication and considering switching providers, talk to your current prescriber before changing or stopping any medication — most psychiatric medications shouldn't be stopped abruptly. Anyone experiencing thoughts of self-harm or in acute crisis should call 988 or go to the nearest emergency department rather than wait for an outpatient appointment.
